Hello cptz,

There are still several things wrong on your PC, the worst is the possible presence of a rootkit, evidenced by this line in your Hijackthis log

O20 - Winlogon Notify: msctl32.dll - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msctl32.dll (file missing)

While I'm looking over the rest, please perfrom this :

Download Blacklight Beta from here:
http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
  • Hit I accept. It will take you to download page.
  • Download blbeta.exe and save it to the Desktop.
  • Once saved... double click blbeta.exe to install the program.
  • Click accept agreement and Click scan
This app too may fire off a warning from antivirus. Let the driver load.
    Wait for it to finish.
  • If it displays any items...don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
  • It will drop a log on Desktop that starts with fsbl....big number
Please post contents of log.

Presence of the bad service confirmed by the following entry in your startuplist :

i386p: \??\C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\i386p.sys (system)

I need more info since Blacklight didn't show it. It's possible that the file has been deleted but we need to be sure.

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.
______________________________

Use the Start > Search function. Make sure that Local Disk (C) is listed in the dropdrown box - if not, click the arrow and select it.
Click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options.
  • Click to select the Search system folders and Search hidden files and folders check boxes.
  • Make sure that the Subfolders are checked too.
Type Online Security Guide in the search box and click the Search button. Delete the file if found.

Note : The file is a shortcut

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. Make sure that you have one blank line at the end of the document as shown in the quoted text.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\Run]
"1"=-

Save it to your desktop as Fixme.reg. Save it as :
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: Fixme.reg

Locate Fixme.reg on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the merged successfully prompt.

Reboot the PC
______________________________

Download Bobbi Flekman's RegSearch from
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/regsearch.php

Create a folder for RegSearch on the C: drive called C:\RegSearch. You can do this by going to My Computer then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it RegSearch. Extract all the files from the zip archive into that folder.

Open the RegSearch folder and double-click the icon for RegSearch.exe to launch the program.
Copy / Paste the following line into the Search Box:

i386p

then hit Ok

After completion Notepad will be opened with all the found instances of the string. The resulting file is saved in the same location as RegSearch.exe.
______________________________

Copy/paste the following quote box into a new notepad (not wordpad) document.

@ECHO OFF
cd %Windir%\system32\
dir i386p* /s > files.txt
notepad files.txt
del /q files.txt

Save it to your Desktop as findfile.bat. Save it as:
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: findfile.bat

Locate findfile.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. When notepad opens, copy/paste the content in your reply. When you close notepad, the file will be deleted and the CMD window closed.

Download WinPFind.zip to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/winpfind.php
Extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder.
Open the C:\WinPFind folder and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
Click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish.

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log file named C:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt. Please copy that log into your next reply.

Please post:

1. Regsearch results
2. results from findfile.bat
3. C:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt

Findfile.bat did not find any files.

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hello cptz,

Thanks for providing the additional information with the new logs.

You have a very dangerous trojan on your system, evidenced by this line in your HijackThis log:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HostSrv] C:\WINDOWS\sachostx.exe

You can read more about it here:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... .e@mm.html

Furthermore, we have that rootkit file. Some damage may have been done to your system.

You are strongly advised to do the following immediately:

1. Disconnect infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.

2. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

3. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

and what ever else seems appropriate.

______________________________

Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

I saw that System Restore is disabled. You might have a good reason for this, but I would prefer we turn it on just in case something goes wrong. A bad restore point is better than nothing. You can turn it off again when the computer is clean.

Click Start then Run
Type in services.msc
Click Ok

Scroll down and double click on the service called System Restore Service
Click Stop and then set the Startup Type to Automatic.
Click the start button to start the service.

Turn System Restore back on
  1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the System Restore tab.
  3. Clear the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
A new restore point will be created automatically.

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. Make sure that you have one blank line at the end of the document as shown in the quoted text.

Save it to your desktop as Fixme.reg. Save it as :
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: Fixme.reg

You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. Start Ewido
  • On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
  • Click on Start.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close Ewido.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
Ewido manual updates. Make sure to close Ewido before installing the update.
______________________________

Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip
Unzip it to your desktop or a convenient folder.
______________________________

Disconnect from Internet, unplug the modem !

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
______________________________

Locate Fixme.reg on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the merged successfully prompt.

ARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Hello cptz,

While I go over your logs, especially the lsa.txt, I would like to see the content of system.ini because you have a keylogger on your system. If not yet done, I reallly urge you to change passwords, contact your bank ... etc as I said in my previous post. The keylogger is evidenced by this :

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00005.dll

More info : http://research.sunbelt-software.com/th ... ch=bigblue
______________________________

Please perform

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
______________________________

Using Windows Explorer, Search and Delete these Files if listed:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\tmp.tmp
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00005.dll

Any other dll starting with ibm<number>.dll and any exe file starting with ibm<number>.exe like in the samples below.

ibm00000.exe
ibm00001.dll
ibm00001.exe
ibm00002.dll

Use the Start > Search function to find the following Files and Delete them if listed.
Type the name of the file in the search box and click the Search button. Delete the file if found.

kl.exe
dima2.exe
3.exe
loader.exe
ms1.exe
msarch.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file, right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is uncheck it and try again.
______________________________

Using Windows Explorer, go to C:\Windows
Find System.ini
Right click it and select open with...notepad
Make sure "always use selected program to open this kind of file" is UNCHECKED!

Copy and paste results here.

exit system.ini file.
