Hi Chris and everybody,
i was suffering few days ago of connexion to web giving us a window for
downloading stripsaver.
I was under Norton protection , AV & FW !!!
Then comes the times of wandering what's that stuff coming from and i began
to surf about AD/SPY wares and finish paranoid ;-)
I've changed after that every thing :
Browser now is Firefox
Mailbrowser is Thunderbird
AV is Avast!
FW is ZoneAlarm (free version)
As Symantec contract was coming to end, i have desinstall both AV and FW (not really easy)
I keep IE for MS update but if used ,for sure i ran EnoughIsEnough plus IE_SPYAD2 (only thing not
happy with is the side-effect not showing forbidenn list, maybe i'll change to regular IE-SYPAD)

Ad_Aware, Spybot S&D , MS antispyware beta1, Xysoft : downloaded.
It took me a while to get rid off following threats:
Instant-dialer
Exact-naviseach
Egroup-dailer
Magic control : MSEGCOMPID.dll

All became better after a complete purge of Temp files and folder
Wild Tangent was also in the list (downloaded aside with Logitech gamepaddle)

Here after some spyware chasing result with Xoftspy (used only in free-trial, so
no way to repare) none of SPYBOT or MS spyware detects

GROKSTER : registry key
MUGLY registry value software/Microsoft\OLE\enableDcom\N:@/N

Can you tell me if all safe now or if i have to improve
Thanks for reply
Tirol

PS#1: i ran some regcleaner as well but i'm not sure if i've to follow every advices
Regsupreme told more the hundred entries
Regcompact not working replies "Can't get file size"

no one else has come to your assistance so you have me :)

O23 - Service: hpdj - Unknown owner - C:\DOCUME~1\HP_PRO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\hpdj.exe (file missing)

That like has been seen before and is subject to some debate.

It looks like a HP file BUT it is stored in the tempary folders.

Could you try to see if you can find it.

If not try start - run - services.msc /s (enter)

Find that serverive ansd 'stop' and in the box above change to disable - reboot your computer and then see if you can find it.

when done please send it to me .

You have a number of files that we would like copies of - to check out and play with.

1. Using Windows Explorer, go to . Locate the first file you want to zip.

C:\DOCUME~1\HP_PRO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\hpdj.exe

2. Right click on the file and select "Send To" and "Compressed (zipped) Folder".

3. Right click on the zipped folder and select "Explore".

4. In "File" menu select "Add a Password". Enter the password infected and confirm the password.

5. Please email to cjwd-subAThostingatessex.com (Please replace the 'AT' with an '@' )

Please copy the following to the email and attach the zipped file(s) :

The password is "infected".
The thread is found here. http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=642

Paste it in the text field.

and send please.

Thank you.

Hello Chris,
first thanks a lot for reply

i did what you've said. This service was nor started but i deactivated.
No possibl to find it and then to follow your request, sorry.
By double clik it is said that service is a HP deskjet 5100 series uninstall.
I have temporarly installed HP5100 drivers to use a borrowed printer 2 months ago before buying an Epson.
I never succeded to unsinstall this soft. I will ask for original CD and try from there, if proposed.
Now after (?) deactivation i got a THUMBS.DB on my desktop !!
Can i just suppress it ?

By an otherhand, malwares came again despite ZA, Avast! SPybost...
I will try to fix them and send you a new hjt to check.
list is different when i pass SPYBOT ont the different account (one per family member)
my tender spouse :
AvenueA.inc + doubleclick + hitbox + mediaplex + advertising.com
my oldest son : MagicContol.Agent (i was supposed to have cleaned from my session)
my 2 daughters and myself (propriatery): nothing found.

Good night and tks for your job
tirol

What I would like is a HJT log from EACH username. And please WITHOUT any cleaning by tools such as spybot etc now.

I need to see the infection taking place to know what it is.

Ok

With all of these you will probably need to disable pestpatrol while doing the fixes with HJT.

# 01

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

I have just the one consern now in #04

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = wmplayer.exe //ICWLaunch

You will need to search your computer for all files of that name and check than all.

Can you get that file checked by your AV program and while in that user do an online scan with an online AV - one from this list :-

http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=148

The last thing is what problems you are still having.

If it is just M$ anti Spyware reporting a problem - then because it is still beta I would suspect a false positive, where it is seeing either the quarinteened items in another anti-malware program, or the immunisations from another anti-malware program. We have been seeing lots of those lately.

So take a note of WHERE it finds the file or files and let me know so I can let you know if that location is a safe one or not.

Hello Chris,

back on the deck,
As this stuff is a Home PC, i've already eaten almost half of times from prepaid access to WWW, i don't want to face a "family riot" javascript:emoticon('')
Embarassed
What i going to do is to check all sessions with SPYBOT and fix them.
I've right now done an complete Avast check : only saying cannot go through SPYBOT recovery cause password locked.Nothing else.
I've tried to make a on-line SCAN as you advices to, but with a poor Modem line, 2 hours spent for nothing (and obliged to go with I.E.)
I've AVG7 right to be installed, go on ? and Check ?
About your concern for user #4, should i fix it with HJT ?
I'll do HJT for all sessions, then i'll send one complete and send result of comparison of the others with EXAMDIFF.EXE, taking #6 as reference.

What is your opinion?
Should we close this topic ?

I would like to see a location list for that file - some malware do use it - normally from a different location to normal.

Email to :-

cjwd-sub @ hostingatessex.com (remove spaces)

A jpg instead of BMP would be nice if you can do so.

To-day what i've done on every user :
1.passed SPYBOY, fix xhen something found + immunized
2.use Regsupreme and clean
3.use Easycleaner, clean all unused files + registry

One strange thing appears when i was on one session under explorer :
i wanted to get access to Easycleaner, when i click on Proprietary, then
warning that explorer.exe try to access Internet !
check and found the following :
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch Explorer.exe-02121B1A.pf

Hello Chris,

regarding wmplayer , all are 72 Ko and first of the list dated 11/08/2004
which is anterior to the date i purchased the PC.
don't be sorry for delay, it's already very nice to know somebody is aware of your stuff. From my side i've been, and i will be much more, busy with the "old gaffer" boat i'm in charge as president of the association, and the skipper by the meantime.
What i suggest is to close this topic, but i'll come back when i'll have time to go more deeply with that.
We suffer, when using I.E, zipzappromos sh....t. I changed drastically all Internet level to no popup, or whatever, but still alive.
I came with pop-up blocker, then along with Zone alarm : this seems O.K.
But it's really a pity to have so much warning and so on, and this makes my "mates" afraid about surfing during my absence !!
I'm in the way to ask what does XP Home stans for !
