hi thanks for getting back to me. sice my last post i have restored my system back to the way it was when i got it from the factory but still having problems with random pop up's, start bar crashing and avg pops up every now and again telling me it found a virus in restore (i have now disabled system restore). also zonealarm keeps telling me that windows live and internet eplorer are trying to monitor my computer, is this normal? here's my new log.

Hi superbionic,

Perform all actions in the order given.

First thing to do is turn System Restore back on.

Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
A box will pop up, saying, System restore is off, click yes to turn back on, and system restore properties box will open
Click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box. Or, click the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box.
Click OK and close all windows.

When you set your system back to factory specification, did you do a full recovery, using the system manufacture's software, were all your data was destroyed, and
windows was reinstalled, or did you use the Windows system restore which we have just turned back on.??

zonealarm keeps telling me that windows live and internet eplorer are trying to monitor my computer

Yes, windows live and internet explorer are ok.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Please post back

The information I asked for
RSIT Logs x 2, log.txt and info.txt

The random pop up's you are having now, can you give me some information on them.

I see Viewpoint installed..

Viewpoint Manager
is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article.

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present:
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player

Image Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Please post back

i keep getting a window opening which says "you have chosen to open ST which is a application/octet-stream from http//ad.yieldmanager.com. it then gives me the option to ether open with or save file.

Is there any particular site that you go to that causes this pop up, or tries to redirect you to this site??

I just went to hxxp://www.bebo.com/ and it seems ok.

Do you rely on system remembered passwords for sites and forums, which would be stored in some cookies,

Click Start, click Run, type inetcpl.cpl in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
On the General tab, click Delete under Browsing History in the Internet Properties dialog box.
In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, click Delete Cookies. (This will delete all cookies and passwords)
In the Delete Cookies dialog box, click Yes.
Close all windows..

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that
will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs, and will stop yieldmanager cookies from being downloaded.

A tutorial on downloading, installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Make sure you update and tick protection for IE, Firfox and Restricted Sites.

Reboot your system and see if that has helped.

GooredFix-Option 1

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2
  • Double-click GooredFix.exe to run it.
  • Select 1. Find Goored (no fix) by typing 1 and pressing Enter.
  • A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredLog.txt).
Note: Do not run Option 2 yet.
