hal.dll missing

Unread postby tylerisdabest » April 22nd, 2009, 4:04 pm

I accidently deleted hal.dll on my virtual pc, now it won’t boot up, its windows xp home with 400 mb of ram and 40gigs of hard drive. The xp disk I used is maxed out of times its able to be used so I can only have for 30 days, it has about 16 days left on it, but I don’t want to get rid because I have the conflicker on it and I am doing some studies on the conflicker. Any help will be appreciated?

You could use the recovery console to add in a new hal.dll from backup. sfc /scannow from the command prompt might do it.

Or repair the OS installation

Or boot to a Windows PE solution and copy the same file to C:\Windows

Also, if you reinstall the OS, you still get another 30 days

Experimenting with malware is never really a good idea

I might boot into the dos prompt on the disk and type in c:\windows\system\restore\rstrui.exe a friend told me that might work 100%. so I’m going to try that first then try yours.
