Trojan Alureon ??? Please stop the pain!!!

Unread postby bingbangboom » April 21st, 2009, 12:50 am

I've got a virus / malware that has been persistent and very frustrating. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

I had random pop-up advertisements and denial of google searching. I ran both adaware and malwarebytes on my own based on previous experience. Both were difficult to install / run since it seemed like something was blocking their operation. They are both working now though.

Here is what is currently happening:

Dell Inspiron 700m laptop
Windows XP

1. I get the "blue screen of death" about 20% of the time on start. Other times it starts with no problems.

2. Error pops up immediately saying "Cannot find puwaduvu.dll"

3. Adaware warns me that a malicious program is running in the background and begins its own scan. Always results in Win32TrojanAlureon and recommends that I remove it. I elect to do as it recommended and it directs me to reboot.

4. Before or after running adaware, I run malwarebytes which returns a Trojan.Agent registry value of gogurikali 100% of the time and occasionally Trojan.Vundo registry value of c8518218. I elect to remove selected and it tells me that items were removed successfully.

5. If I scan again or reboot and then scan, I get the exact same results from adaware and malwarebytes even though they claim to have removed the threats. I've tried to install Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, but that too is being blocked and closed shortly after it begins loading.

Thanks in advance!

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.
A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Disable AVG8 before running Combofix
  • Open AVG8 Control Center, by right clicking on AVG8 icon on task bar.
  • Click on Tools.
  • Select Advanced.
  • In the left hand pane, scroll down to "Resident Shield".
  • In the main pane, deselect the option to "Enable Resident Shield".
Note: If you want to re-enable AVG, please select "Enable Resident Shield" again.
