Hi Helmut,

I would suggest that you copy all of Roboform's data to another uninfected computer. From this uninfected computer, if you still can remember your passwords and other details, change all the passwords and necessary details.

After that, you might want to decide if you want to clean this computer or do a complete reformat and reinstallation of Windows.

Please let me know your decisions.

Hi Helmut,

Step 1

Please download DDS from Bleeping Computer and save it to your desktop.

Double click on dds to run it.

When done, DDS.txt will open. Another file, Attach.txt will open after a short while. Please save these 2 files to your desktop as they will be deleted once you close them.

Please attach Attach.txt in your next reply by scrolling down to Upload attachment and clicking on Browse....

An image is below for your reference:

Step 2

Please download gmer.zip from Gmer and save it to your desktop.

  1. Right click on gmer.zip and select Extract All....
  2. Click Next on seeing the Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard.
  3. Click on the Browse button. Click on Desktop. Then click OK.
  4. Click Next. It will start extracting.
  5. Once done, check (tick) the Show extracted files box and click Finish.

Double click on gmer.exe to run it. It will start running a scan. If it detects rootkit activity, you will receive a prompt to run a full scan. Click Yes.

  • When done, you may receive another notice. Click OK.
  • Click on Save ... to save a log.
  • Copy and paste in Gmer.txt and click Save.
  • Close Gmer.

If you receive no notice, click on the Scan button.

  • It will start scanning again.
  • When done, click on Save ... to save a log.
  • Copy and paste in Gmer.txt and click Save.
  • Close Gmer.

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. DDS.txt
  2. Attach.txt (attached to this topic)
  3. Gmer.txt

Hi Helmut,

Your logs look fine. Can you recall any websites that you visited that resulted in this c99madshell being loaded ?

Hi ndmmxiaomayi!

Yes and i moved to another server and updated the MOODLE software.

So the next days i will delete the infectet data on the old server.

One question, can my computer or the computer of a user be infected if i use this infectet site?
What is the goal of c99madshell?

Thanks and greetings
Helmut

P.S. Where can I find the link for donations?

Hi Helmut,

I'm not an expert on such issues, so I'm asking for help. Please give me some moments to get an answer, and perhaps someone else will post directly to you.

As for donations, you can find it here - http://malwareremoval.com/donations.php

Hi Helmut,

Here's a reply from one of resident experts:

Orac wrote:c99shell is a very well known server exploit, we see it on a regular basis :(

Briefly, its used to find server vulnerabilities, including hidden password files and open ports, and exploit MySQL databases. It can used to download other attack scripts, it can send spam and be used for bit torrent downloads and of course open back doors on the machine. Once installed on server, it gives the skiddie complete admin rights, all thru an "idiot proof" point and click browser interface.

Yes, that is possible, since a PHP script. Someone could easily add codes to this PHP shell script to re-direct them to some phony sites and infect their computers.

Here's an analysis of the c99madshell script - http://www.derekfountain.org/security_c99madshell.php

You said you've moved to a new server - did you change the password that you used? Meaning is the password used for the new server the same as the old one? If that is so, we would recommend that you change it as well.

To prevent such issues again, he recommends you to block port 22 and use a non standard port for SSHD connections. That will stop any unauthorized access via SSH.
