Heh, how would I be ideal?

Roadrunner is indeed my ISP, unfortunately. They have a monopoly on the area and provide the -worst- customer service... Though having to deal with their inadequacies has certainly helped me come up with creative adaptations, such as setting up a ping command that'll keep track of when the service gets interrupted, for how long, and I can watch the patterns for when it's about to crap out on me.

Heh, how would I be ideal?
You have a basic understanding :)

Stop Processes Prior to Deletion
Close ALL open windows. Use Ctrl-Alt-Delete together to bring up the task manager.
Under the processes tab, if it is visible, check the box 'Show processes from all users'.
One at a time, highlight each of these that are listed and "End Process":

utorrent_1_8_2.exe

Right click start, In the drop down menu click "Explore" Then navigate to each file\ folder in the left hand pane, which will reveal its content in the right hand pane, highlight file or folder right click and Delete, if present:

I:\Setups\Common\utorrent_1_8_2.exe << This file

post one more HJT report :)

Just read my roommate the riot act for that one. She used my own tips for hiding torrent software from library staff against me; run the application from a USB stick, and in a hidden profile that's hidden by TweakXP, which the library security software somehow doesn't pick up... We had a need to download OOO for Oblivion once, and the torrent was the only way to get it to download correctly. Apparently the movie she was getting was worth the risk to her. Anyways, it's cleared out, and I've searched the computer for all application-type files, found two more copies of it. Really sneaky!
I use Process Explorer as a replacement for the task manager, but do you know of a program that will keep track of all .exe's that run in a text file, so I can keep better track of what she does?
Also, for that matter, how would I join the university?

how would I join the university?

here you go

do you know of a program that will keep track of all .exe's that run in a text file, so I can keep better track of what she does?

Not one that springs to mind but google is your friend!

--------

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jp2iexp.dll (file missing)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

-----------------------------

You don't need to put all of these programs on your system unlike your Antivirus and firewall of which you can only have one of each.
However you can have several Antimalware programs

Congratulations you are clean! :)
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Create a new System Restore Point
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
  • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
  • Select the More options tab
  • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6.2
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here
Find here changes from older version 1.4 here

Install Spyware Guard
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Guard here

Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here

Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.
http://www.update.microsoft.com

May I inquire what your experience was at the university? I can see you're still training. I'm flipping back and forth between joining now or joining later, as I'll be making a big life change of moving soon, so I'm trying to get an idea of what it's like, first.

I actually missed this the next time around, maybe you should have a few fireworks .gif's to accompany it. :D

Having read the link to the university 'brochure' you sent thoroughly, hopefully this feels as good as it did the first time you received it: THANK YOU - I AM VERY GRATEFUL!

You have to dicipline yourself and set aside some time that's not going to interfere with real life ie family life. There are many times one can get addicted and not put time aside for real family, which is so important.
My experience, there are some great folk and the thing is your never on your own, you always have some expert to turn too should things not go as planned.
I find it very rewarding, just to get a lovely thank you at the end makes it worth while.
Kind regards dan
