I deleted the four files in the previous step. I don't have any need for them. Do you want me to restore and move them?

We just needed to delete them as they were infected.Did you delete items in housecall quarantine?
Can you post a further HJT log and let me know how things are with the pc at this moment in time?

Dan,
my desktop PC's (the infected one) behavior has been greatly improved since running Combofix. The popups were out of control before, now I have not seen any in my limited time online. I have not been using this PC much other than the activities you requested due to a lack of trust in information safety and the feeling that any time spent with this computer on was more opportunity for the virus to mutate or load more malware -so I have been using my laptop primarilly.

Last night MRT.exe started and was using alot of resources, so I killed it and scanned it. I am increasingly convinced that this is a legitimate program from Microsoft "malicious software removal tool" but that it has it's own updating that I did not agree to. I think this is the program that is loading updates and rebooting. I stopped windows updates when SP3 loaded and messed up the function of some of my programs (I backed up to SP2 and stopped windows updates) I am not sure if I should keep MRT. What do you think? My Primary AV is Mcaffy which is obviously inadequate, but it comes with my broadband so I feel compelled to use it to protect the network with a product they understand.

I ran ad-aware and all it found were cookies (23!). This is a good sign but disturbing that I picked up so many cookies tracking me from just yahoo mail and antivirus sites.

I will use this PC today on mainstream sites today and check tonight to look for malware, and also scan my notebook because it has been on the same network. What scanner should I use to check that I am still clean?

This is up to you. If it were mine, I possibly would remove it off my pc, as you have been having a few problems.
In my closing speech I will be outlining some tools to help with security.
One program you already have now is malwarebytes which is very good, you just need to update it before scanning as they bring out new definitions frequently.
I will post back shortly as we need to tidy up some tools used.

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
