Need to get rid of SpyAxe...

Unread postby NaomiStarz » December 5th, 2005, 4:53 pm

Hiya, I was wondering if anyone could give me some help with my SpyAxe problems. Somehow SpyAxe has installed itself on my computer along with SpyTrooper and some other random stuff I have no idea about! I've got no idea how to get rid of it. I installed HijackThis from which I got a logfile to paste on here...

Hi I will help you get rid of Spyaxe

Please print out and/or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

*****
I will use the updated Smitrem tool on you
The tool is still a beta tool so i cannot post it here on the board.

I will send you the link by PM (personal message)

Download the new smitrem tool from the link i pm-ed you
install it but do not use it yet.

*****
Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

*****
If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

*****
Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

*****
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

*****
start hijackThis and put a check at the following lines

O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {3e9b951e-6f72-431b-82cf-4a9fbf2f53bc} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp69C6.tmp

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpyAxe] C:\Program Files\SpyAxe\spyaxe.exe /h

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/12fbbeb461a ... xIE601.cab

Now click Fix checked
And close HijackThis

*****
We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.
Remove the following file

C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

*****
Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

*****
Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

*****
Reboot back into Windows’ Normal Mode
Post it a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.
