Virtumonde and Smitfraud

Unread postby j0nj0nn » January 8th, 2009, 12:47 am

Hello,
I recently had a bad experience with virtumonde and other malware. It kept making my desktop disappear, then reappear. It also prevented me from connecting to the internet. I initially ran Adaware, which discovered some .dll files associated with Virtumonde. I went into regedit and deleted the files, then deleted a file named TuvTllMe.dll in system32. All the files returned when I restarted, and I was getting pretty frustrated. I ended up running Superantispyware, then Spybot, followed by Avira Antivirus. The problem now seems to be fixed, and the 3 programs discovered and deleted a total of 35 viruses! Anyhow, after doing all that, I ran Hijack This and this is the log. Can someone please just take a look at my log and see if everything looks clean? I have a Sony Vaio desktop running Windows XP. Thank you in advance.

Hello and Welcome to forums!

My name is Bio-Hazard and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues this may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • I f you don't know or understand something please don't hesitate to ask.
  • Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  • It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

NOTE: Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe

Hello!

I see that you have a log in Techguy forum, here PLEASE aske them to close it because you are recieving help here. Please read this about Multi forum posting.

Superantispyware (SAS)

  • Open SUPERAntispyware
  • Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
  • Under Scanner Logs double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
  • It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
  • Please highlight everything in the notepad then right-click and choose copy.
  • Click close and close again to exit the program.
  • Please paste that information here for me to see.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the Perform Full Scan option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and Scan in progress will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found.
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

random's system information tool (RSIT)

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Due to lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still need help open a new thread in the Malware Removal forum and wait for a new helper.

If you have been helped and wish to donate to help with the costs of this volunteer site, please read Donations For Malware Removal
