Hi again.
You have at least one nasty trojan on your computer.

We will try this first: it will also tell us a bit more about what is going on.

Go to http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/a ... ncipal.htm

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Run a new Hijack this scan and post the log together with the report from the active scan.

Can you also tell me a bit more about what problems if any you have with your computer.

E :)

E,

I will do as you suggest in a few minutes. I have done a lot of cleaning already. The lingering annouance is a flashing yield sign in the systray telling me I am infected and trying to get me to install more spyware. I had a spyaxe issue that I think is gone. I also had my browser hijacked, but I think that issue is fixed as well. I still am getting some pop-up ads. I am using mcafee 2006 virus and personal firewall, microsfts beta, adaware, spybot s&d and a squared. I will post the logs as soon as they are ready.

It looks like you still have some of that Spyaxe stuff left on your computer.

Let's try the following fix by noahdfear

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
===================================================
HijackThis entries here if needed. Delete any other malware files not associated to the smitfraud variants and SpySherriff.
===================================================

Close HiJackThis.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

I do know that we have run the Panda scan once but run it again because those programs are specialist at downloading other junk.

E :)

Here are the requested logs. The last pandascan was negative. So far the machine seems clean. Thank you very much for the support!

Hi again mchazy

Your log seems to be clean and the same is indicated by both Ewido and Panda.
What is seen in Ewido are leftovers or backentries in HijackThis that are best left alone.
The only thing I would do now is the following.

Open HijackThis and click "Do a System Scan Only" or "Scan". Put a check mark by the items that are listed below.
O16 - DPF: {2B96D5CC-C5B5-49A5-A69D-CC0A30F9028C} (MiniBugTransporterX Class) - http://wdownload.weatherbug.com/minibug ... porter.cab?
O16 - DPF: {87056D28-9730-4A47-B9F9-7E890B62C58A} (WildfireActiveXHost Class) - http://aolsvc.aol.com/onlinegames/ghtum ... axhost.cab
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://www.pogo.com/game/deluxe/insaniq ... der_v6.cab

Close all open windows except HijackThis and then click the "Fix checked" button.

They are no threat but could unececarely open up your computer to risks.

Now I want you to clean up some loose ends and take some precautions to avoid being re-infected

  1. Clean out Temporary Files etc. Download System Security Suite from http://www.igorshpak.net/software/3ssetup104.zip. Extract it from the zip file into a folder and double click on sss.exe. Check the boxes under the 'Items to Clear' tab and click 'Clear Selected Items'. Reboot when prompted. It is a good idea to do this every few weeks as a lot of junk collects there over time.

  2. . Disable and Enable System Restore.
You are running Windows XP and you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

You can find instructions on how to disableable and re-enable system restore here:

  3. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
      1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
    Also see the following:

Many exploits are directed at Internet Explorer, you don't have to use it.
Try a different browser like Firefox .
It is also worth trying Thunderbird for controlling spam in your e-mail.

[*]Always use a anti-virus program and KEEP IT UPDATED
It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

[*] Always use a firewall.
I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen to often with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Be restrictive with granting access to the internet. If you are unsure if the program really needs the access, test it by denying the access and see if this has any negative effects. If not, make the block permanent.

[*]Never run two Antivirus programs or two Firewalls at the same time. They can interfere with each other and cause problems.

[*] [b]MOST IMPORTANT : You Need to keep “Windowsâ€
