Oldish laptop running everything incredibly slowly

Unread postby zeilerkm » January 9th, 2009, 9:02 pm

I was using an older laptop (5 or 6 years) and had gotten a new computer and gave the laptop to my sister. Over time the laptop began to slow significantly in its ability to do anything. The start up time for the computer is long and you have to wait close to 15 minutes after it turns on to be able to run anything at all. I am not sure if this is due to the older components or low processing speed (1.6gh), but having looked at it while have been home it is definitely running much less efficiently than it used to. Here is the hijack log and I appreciate anything that you can do to improve the computer.

Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is peku006and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.
I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

1 - Scan With ComboFix

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

How to Temporarily Disable Anti-virus

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

2 - Run Hijackthis
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad

3 - Status Check
Please reply with

1. the ComboFix log(C:\ComboFix.txt)
2. a fresh HijackThis log

Thanks peku006

Hi zeilerkm

1 - Run CFScript

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\mljfpmyq.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\xlhevfyb.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\eysmalot.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\hfsbxkev.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\oiaanesh.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\afkwrupg.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\aogfqryj.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\rabvvure.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\mnqhqlhr.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\mvhjrbxf.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\tiacqirm.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\lyvkuovi.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\glucbeos.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\sixvvldx.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\sfsbguhk.ini
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\oxhxdpyy.in
c:\windows\SYSTEM32\ywpsbhff.ini

Folder::
C:\found.003

Save this as "CFScript.txt", and as Type: All Files (*.*) in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

2 - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2

  • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself.
  • Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform full scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • The log can also be found here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

3 - Run Hijackthis
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad

4 - Status Check
Please reply with

1. the ComboFix log(C:\ComboFix.txt)
2. the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Log
3. a fresh HijackThis log
How's the computer running now? Any problems?

Thanks peku006

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
