search engines hijacked

Unread postby wmunny » December 31st, 2008, 6:33 pm

When putting in an item to search for in Google or Yahoo, all my results look right but they have url's that are not related to my search. I've noticed that many of them are to shopping links. I am posting my hijackthis log and would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

Thank you for the help! wmunny.

Unread postby davis » January 3rd, 2009, 11:16 am

Hi wmunny,

Welcome to MRU. My name is davis. I will be helping you to fix your malware problems.
If your issues have been resolved or already received help elsewhere, then please let us know. If not, and still need help. Please follow the instructions in the following.

Step1
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Step2

Please close all browsers and other windows while running GooredFix.

  • Please download GooredFix and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click Goored.exe to run it. Select 1. Find Goored (no fix) by typing 1 and pressing Enter.
  • A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called Goored.txt).
Note: Do not run Option #2 yet.

Step3

Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text inside the code box below:

Code: Select all
@Echo off
reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\drivers32" >> C:\look.txt
START C:\look.txt

Name the file as check.bat, making sure save as type is set to " All Files ". It should look like Image
Double click on check.bat & allow it to run. Copy and paste the content in your next reply (If the file does not open please check here for the file C:\look.txt.).

In your next reply, please post back:

1.Goored log
2.Look.txt
3.RSIT log.txt and info.txt.

Thanks.

two thing happened while while performing your operations, first; i could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment

Hi wmunny,

i put the system in safe mode and was able to delete the wdmaud files

:thumbright: From the kas scan log, This one is the culprit for redirecting while using google and need to go whatsoever.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wdmaud.sys Infected: Rootkit.Win32.Agent.fwt 1

i believe i posted the wrong log for the peek log. please see below for peek log

The content of the peek.bat is not complete. While running peek.bat, You should let it run for seconds. When finished, a text file will be prompt automatically. If still no luck, please do the following instead.

Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text inside the code box below:

Code: Select all
@echo off
Vfind -ltf %systemroot%\sysaudio.sy* >log.txt
Start Log.txt

Name the file as view.bat, making sure save as type is set to " All Files ". It should look like Image. Double click on view.bat & allow it to run. Copy and paste the content in your next reply.

the search engines apear to be working normal but i cannot up date the miro soft up date

:thumbright: Please go to Here downoading DialAFix, It will repair windows installer, windows update, https connections, and many other issues. UNcheck "Empty Temp Folders", as well as "Adjust Time/Date" in the prep section,
then check all items over there. Hope this helps.

After that, Please do the following:

Step1

Please navigate to and locate the following file path to empty the folder in black bold.

C:\Documents and Settings\mycomputer\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\bww222gc.slt\Mail\pop3.miniature-3.net\Inbox

The other infected file is in System Volume Information we will deal with that in the end.

In your next reply, please post back:

1.Peek.txt
2.Look.txt (Before running check.bat, delete the file in C:\look.txt)
3.New HJT log

Tell me how your pc is running now.

Re: search engines hijacked

Unread postby davis » January 5th, 2009, 3:50 pm

Hi wmunny,

Let's clean some orphaned entries.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Do a system scan only." Place checks next to the following entries(If present):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1CB20BF0-BBAE-40A7-93F4-6435FF3D0411} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {243B17DE-77C7-46BF-B94B-0B5F309A0E64} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix Checked".

Other than that, You log looks good. Any issue left? If not, Let's do some housecleaning. It seemed you had run Combofix before in your log. Please do the following:

Step1

Click START then RUN
Now copy/paste Combofix /u in runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Image

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again. The infected file in System Volume Information will be removed automatically. Remember to delete the Fix.reg, view.bat, RSIT and the folder in C:\rsit.

Now that your system is clean, kindly follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

  1. Update your Your Adobe Acrobat Reader

Old versions may render vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please download Adobe Reader 9 to your desktop.

Uninstall the old Adobe Reader from Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Install the new one.

  2. Update your antivirus programs

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system. You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
    Secunia Software Inspector
    F-secure Health Check

  3. Make your Internet Explorer more secure

Please referring this thread to configure Internet Explorer 7 properly.

  4. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  5. Install a-squared Free -a-squared free is a product from Emsi Software provided free for private use that can detect and remove a variety of malicious software. If you have a dialup internet connection, you may also like to install a-squared Anti-Dialer which provides some real time protection against premium rate dialers

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Clean your PC with a-squared Free

  6. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"
Read some information Here how to prevent Malware.

Glad to be of help. Safe surfing!!

Hi wmunny,

Those probelms are quite sophisticated. I don't think i would give you advisable solutions right now. There are some useful information for your reference.

http://www.bokebb.com/dev/english/1937/ ... 2134.shtml
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1113757183
http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-492377.php

As to Roxio live share services, please go to Here

If still no luck, you can start your topic from there. or turning to Tech community for your MS update problems since it's not malware related.

I hope this will find you well. Good luck!
