Re: Please Help - Microsoft.Windows.Explorer, etc. Can't Remove

Unread postby Elrond » January 5th, 2009, 9:46 am

I'm Elrond and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please only use this topic for your replies on this problem. Do not start another thread.
Please note that the fixes we will use are specific to your problems on this computer and should only be used for this problem on this computer.
These things need to be properly researched and a complete fix for many malware problems can take some time and be spread over a number of posts, so please be patient and try to see it through to the end.

Before we start: Please be aware that removing Malware is a hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start.

Please observe these rules while we work:
 • Perform all actions in the order given.
 • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
 • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
 • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
 • REMEMBER, ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN THE INFECTION IS ALL GONE.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
 • Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default) Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting, but continue with the fix. Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.
It may be helpful to you to print out or take a copy of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

Please note that all instructions given are customized for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.
If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Please note that I will be off line for about 26 hours (sundown Friday until nightfall Saturday my local time) every week.

End of preliminaries. What follows is related to analyzing what is on your computer and cleaning it up.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Unread postby tjbarry » January 7th, 2009, 11:10 pm

The problems I'm experiencing are:

slowness, Slowness, SLowness, etc. Also, my internet connection drops causing me to have to reboot to reestablish my connection. However, I recently switched to a wireless router and wireless cards and may be having trouble that I may have caused myself.

Hi

I am still working my way through the logs and I do see some stuff that looks suspicious.

In the interim can you please tell me if this computer is used for business purposes? The reason for my question is that I see that you are using the enterprise versions of the firewall and the Antivirus programs.

It is used for personal and business use. It is my PC at home.

BTW, there isn't anything I've posted here that could put my machine at additional risk is there? I'm effectively posting this to the world.

It seems from some of the entries in your HJT log and your answer that your computer is a business machine.

Have you read our guidelines on such machines?

http://www.malwareremoval.com/rules.php

# In General, we do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.

I'm sorry, but under these circumstances I'm afraid we must decline to help you. You need to get in touch with your IT department and let them deal with your problem.
Please don't misunderstand me. This is my home PC, there is no corporate data on it. The only reason I use my PC for work is to VPN into work. That is currently not working and needs to be reinstalled anyway. I still need help.

OK I will try my best but it will probably be tomorrow until I get around to it. :(
Let's hope that we can get it clean. :)

I have worked through most of the log and will continue tomorrow. In the meantime
If you would like me to attempt to clean the infections please read this topic: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=33112

I want you to realize this: Person-to-Person file sharing programmes are the #1 cause of infection to people. The program might not be infected, but the files you download with it most certainly can - and in fact, most of them will - be infected.

Please uninstall the Person-to-Person file sharing programmes mentioned below through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

LimeWire 4.8.1

Also uninstall any other P2P programs I may have missed. Thanks :)

HI tjberry

Now we are getting into the clean up.

I'd like you to check (a file/some files) for Viruses.
C:\DOCUME~1\tbarry\LOCALS~1\Temp\PZNCD.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\tbarry\LOCALS~1\Temp\WRPSFGUQF.exe

 • Copy/Paste the first file on the list into the white Upload a file box.
 • Click Send/Submit, and the file will upload to VirusTotal/Jotti, where it will be scanned by several anti-virus programmes.
 • After a while, a window will open, with details of what the scans found.
 • Note details of any viruses found.
 • Repeat for all files on the list, and post me the details please

Stop a Service
Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it fixservices.bat Please save it on your desktop.

@echo off
sc stop WRPSFGUQF
sc stop PZNCD
del /q fixServices.bat
exit

Right click fixServices.bat
A window will open and close. This is normal.

Download and Run OTMoveIt3

Download OTMoveIt3 by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
 • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe.
 • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
:services
WRPSFGUQF
PZNCD

:reg
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\BitTorrent]
