Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

  1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

Regarding the ComboFix, I downloaded it on my desktop however when I try to move my downloaded Windows XP Recovery Console over top of it, like Step 2 says in the directions a box comes up like this:

Image

That box, from what I understand from reading the instructions isn't supposed to come up until after the ComboFix takes care of the Windows XP Recovery Console installs it.

What do I do?

Just so you know, I'm running Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2.

Please, doc, does it look good? :pale:
The symptoms are, if I haven't already said are that Firefox windows keep opening up with advertisements, and AVG went crazy last night finding a bunch of viruses or something. Please not, I read the thing about P2P and I see that in the above log, there is something about Limewire.exe, that is because it was installed on this computer a long time ago in a different user account (my brothers) and I made him take it off a long time ago, but apparently the .exe is still on here. I just wanted to explain that. Thanks.

    Submit a file to Jotti
    Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste this filepath in there.
If theres is more than one file to scan, insert them 1 at a time.

    c:\windows\system32\7ABDAA28DB.sys

    Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

You may recieve a message stating "
"The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"

Just let me know if that is what you saw.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:

Regarding the symptoms I have yet to encounter any popups, and usually by now, I would have at least 3 to 4. I don't know about the blue screens of death... I'm scared to try, and they are on the other two accounts I plan on deleting. Also, it kept turning off my automatic updates, however as of now they are on and have been staying on.

Can I turn back on all my virus scanners?

Yes turn on all your anti virus programs again.
I will be back with a bit more to do in a while.

If you plan on deleting those other 2 accounts go ahead and do so .

With all that we're finding wrong we better get an Online scan.

Download and install CCleaner from here

If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.

  • Set Cookie Retention.
Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
Under the Cookies to delete pane, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently (those companies or sites with which you regularly visit or do business), and click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to keep pane.

Click on the Options block on the left. Select the Advanced button.
Check "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".

Now run the program and click on Run Cleaner
( Do not use the Registry function to clean anything with this program. Having anything auto clean your regisrty is risky).

Up to the point above, I'm good. I downloaded the CCleaner, but I'm lost in the steps above.

I have no idea what the above is. I'm using Firefox/Mozilla, and when I click "Tools" >> "Options" >> "Applications" there is nothing about cookies. I don't see anything about a pane, or 48 hours...

Screen shot of in my Option box, stuff regarding cookies:
