popups from IP addresses?

Unread postby zomgsupersack » December 1st, 2008, 7:25 pm

Hi, I'm new to these forums. I am having issues with popups leading me to believe my computer has some adware, malware, or any of the harmful -ware's. I looked around your archives and you seem to know what you're saying so I thought I might ask for some help.

As it says in my subject title, the majority of the time when I use google, a popup appears with an IP address in the URL. One of your Site Moderators said that it was from the Netherlands in an archived topic. Here is one of the URL's:
(I bolded the IP address)

http://70.38.98.32/red.php?lid=mark_empty&br=firefox&url=www.google.com%2Fsearch%3Fhl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial%26hs%3DEbx%26q%3Da%26btnG%3DSearch&z=US&affid=168440&ver=112&shows=0&click1=48&click2=0&uqs=48&uid=9EB20CEEBF7411DDAFCF168440CFFFFF&guid=083C91AC592E40C48A25F538FB9D414A&jguid=&cmp=superjuan&rid=zdez&xp=1

There has also been other IP addresses and they are as follows:
82.98.235.113
85.12.43.70
89.188.16.26

and I believe there will be more to come. :(

**EDIT**
It also looks like I get popups from just browsing the Web as well. I forgot to add that the popups are blank (how I got the IP addresses) and they can be from random sites (expedia, officialiqquiz, etc.). Also in one instance, I was completely unable to browse because the Firefox window was greyed out. I tried alt+tabbing to the window, but it wouldn't let me scroll down or click any links.
Also, I have a link to one of the sites it tries to get me to. I will post if requested.

Re: popups from IP addresses?

Unread postby Shaba » December 5th, 2008, 1:05 pm

Yes :)

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

Re: popups from IP addresses?

Unread postby Shaba » December 6th, 2008, 6:05 am

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Re: popups from IP addresses?

Unread postby Shaba » December 6th, 2008, 1:59 pm

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

uTorrent
LimeWire 4.14.12

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

Please run a new uninstall list scan when finished and post the log back here.

I don't know if I deleted the uTorrent thing correctly because it didn't show up on the other save list in my last reply.

Re: popups from IP addresses?

Unread postby Shaba » December 6th, 2008, 2:32 pm

Thank you :)

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Code: Select all
File::
c:\windows\system32\wrchdq.dll
c:\windows\system32\huchbcgc.dll

Folder::
c:\Program Files\LimeWire
c:\Program Files\uTorrent

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=-

[HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"c:\\Program Files\\LimeWire\\LimeWire.exe"=-
"c:\\Program Files\\uTorrent\\uTorrent.exe"=-

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Re: popups from IP addresses?

Unread postby Shaba » December 6th, 2008, 2:52 pm

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Empty these folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\Supersack\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache
C:\Qoobox\Quarantine

Empty Recycle Bin.

Still problems?

Everything seems fine. I can browse the internet without receiving popups again.
