Using WinXP, IE7 or IE8 makes no difference.

I want to go to "https://login.fidelity.com/ftgw/Fidelity/RtlCust/Login/Init?AuthRedUrl=https://oltx.fidelity.com/ftgw/fbc/ofsummary/summary". (I have been going to this page daily for over a year with no problem.)
I get the error message; UNAVAILABLE Sorry. This page is currently not available. Our technicians are at work updating this section and will restore service as soon as possible.
Per a phone call to the web site, I am told the web site provider IS NOT working on this site and suggested I try Firefox. I did and the page loads correctly.
WHY? All other links and favorites seem to work correctly!
Upgrading to IE8 made no difference.
Using other computers in the household loaded the page correctly.
What is happening here? How do I fix it?

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  1. Please Read All Instructions Carefully
  2. If you don't understand something, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  3. Please do not run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you
  4. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those few things, everything should go smoothly Image

Please Note, your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use.
Be assured, any links I give are safe

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

If you still require help please do the following

Download and Run RSIT
  • Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt will be opened maximized.
    • info.txt will be opened minimized.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt.

Hi WAR,
There is no obvious sign of infection, but let's make sure before we look for other reasons.

Registry Cleaners

Re. Uniblue RegistryBooster 2009

I don't personally recommend the use of ANY registry cleaners.
Here is an excerpt from a discussion on regcleaners
Most reg cleaners aren't "bad" as such, but they aren't perfect and even the best have been known to cause problems.
The point we are trying to make is that the risk of using one far outweighs any benefit.
If it does work perfectly you will not see any difference
If it doesn't work properly you may end up with an expensive doorstop.

Information

PS: The items referred to in the HJT log #017 are Open DNS entries.

I know, but if you didn't specifically set them there is no reason for them to be there :)

----------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------

Step 1

Download and Run ComboFix (by sUBs)
Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

Bleeping Computer ComboFix Tutorial

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix on your own.
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

----------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------
Step 2

Kaspersky Online Scanner .
Your Antivirus and/or Antispyware may give a warning during the scan. This is perfectly normal
NOTE:- This scan is best done from IE (Internet Explorer)

NOTE:- Vista users should start IE by Start(Vista Orb) >> Internet Explorer >> Right-Click Run As Admin
Go Here http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partne ... bscan.html

Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
Once the database has downloaded, click My Computer in the left pane
Now go and put the kettle on !
When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.

**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs.
  • Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

----------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------------
Step 3

Logs/Information to Post in Reply
Please post the following logs/Information in your reply
  • Combofix Log
  • Kaspersky Log
  • How are things running now ?

I did change the DNS entries. Should I remove these items #017?
OR should I revert to the Default DNS entries?
OR Both?

You can leave the DNS settings as they are.

You don't need your CD, just double click Combofix and it will install the recovery console for you.

Boy were you right! I put the kettle on, fixed dinner, made two batch's of egg nog and still had time to play a few games!

Kapersky did find a few items, but I didn't know if I should delete them. Awaiting your instructions......

For the ~Thunderbird\~\Inbox item that Kaspersky found, I recommend that you delete all mail that you don't recognise from your Thunderbird inbox and then empty the deleted folder.

For the other, we'll get rid of it this way :)

OTMoveIt
Please download OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer and save it to your desktop
  • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below. ( Make sure you include :Services )
Code: Select all
:Services
BBIPQPGTE
R
:Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Wayne & PJ\My Documents\Download\SpySweeper sspsetup1612_1883162953.exe
:Commands
[EmptyTemp]

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3

If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Are there any other problems left ?

I wasn't aware Thunderbird was on the computer. It wasn't in add/remove programs or in Start/All programs.
Should I just delete the entire file?

<kibbitz>

======Security center information======

AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free
FW: ZoneAlarm Firewall (disabled)

Does (Windows) Security Center continue to show ZA as disabled 5 to 10 minutes after you're (re)booted? :?

Can you now access the fidelity.com log-in page?

Does (Windows) Security Center continue to show ZA as disabled 5 to 10 minutes after you're (re)booted? Yes, but the zone alarm program shows it IS running and protecting the computer.

Can you now access the fidelity.com log-in page? YES! Thank You.

It looks like Thunderbird has been uninstalled, so you can delete the entire folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Wayne & PJ\Application Data\Thunderbird << This folder

Unless you or PA Bear has any more comments/questions, I think we are about done :)
