Application failed to properly initialize (0xc0000005) mess

Unread postby homerkelley » November 4th, 2008, 12:00 am

New to forum. Thanks in advance for your help. I am trying to install a game (sounds trivial but its not to me). Tiger Woods 08 from EA Sports. Have written to them but not much help.

When I try to open the AutoRun.exe or any other installation file (setup.exe) from the DVD disk I receive the error message "Application failed to properly initialize (0xc0000005)" error message with the instruction to click OK to close the application.

I am running Windows XP SP2 on a Pentium 4 computer with a decent video card and 1 meg of ram. My computer meets the specs for the program.

I have closed all programs including anti-virus and deleted all temp and %tem% files before trying to install the program.

Event Viewer (System) labels this as an Event 26 which indicates insufficient privileges or a missing driver. I am the admin on my machine and would seem that the proper drivers should be on the DVD or in Windows.

Internet search for this type of error brings up all kinds of issues but malware seems to be a consistent theme. I have used several softwares (SpyBot and AdAware -- separately) to scan my machine and have removed some malware and spyware. I have also done a new virus scan (no infections found). (I use Verizon [phone company internet provider] anti-virus, spyware and firewall).

The problem persists. A copy of HajackThis log follows. Please review and see if there is anything that has been missed.

Thank you.

Hi homerkelley,
Your machine has a number of different AntiVirus processes running at the same time.
This could easily create the problem you describe.

Let's see if we can determine which ones are not needed.
First, verify for me that this is a desktop PC, and that it is not a business computer.
Then please proceed as follows:
------------------------------------------------------------
Get Firewall and AntiVirus Status
Please go to Start, Run, type wscui.cpl into the box and hit <Enter>.
Tell me if it reports both AntiVirus and Firewall as ON, and then click on the little down arrows on the right of each, and note the name of the application being used for each.
In your reply please include the application names and ON/OFF status of each.
-----------------------------------------------
Run the RSIT Scanner
Please download the scanner and save it to your desktop. The icon will be named RSIT.exe
Doubleclick the RSIT icon.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open
log.txt <- this one will be maximized
info.txt <- this one will be minimized
( Default location for both files is C:\rsit\ )
Copy/Paste the contents of both log.txt and info.txt into your next post please. Use two posts if you prefer.

So, we are looking for the contents of C:\rsit\log.txt and C:\rsit\info.txt, along with the Antivirus and firewall application status, and verification that this is a non-business desktop PC.

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
