My computer is infected with spyware (SpyAxe 3.0)

Unread postby victor2025 » November 16th, 2005, 3:27 am

I have installed SpyAxe 3.0 thinking that this was an anti-spyware ait installed again. Every 5 seconds I get a Virus Alert saying that my computer is infected with spyware and that windows is going to download software to remove the spyware. When I click on the Virus Alert icon I am directed to Spyware web site. I have installed 10 applications (anti-spyware, antivirus, firewall, etc.). None o these worked. Every time I start my computer I get SpyAxe 3.0 installed and the Virus Alert back every 5 seconds. The spyaxe installer is located in my folder \...\Local Settings\Temp. When I click on the Virus Alert icon sometimes I get a scan made by SpyAxe with some 13 files, resgisters, etc. infected. One of the files is "svchost.exe" located on WINDOWS\system32\. My Norton anti-virus often detects spyaxe.exe attempting to connect to a DNS server (apparently with a Remote Address: 192.168.0.1: 53. I have tried everything you suggested and did not work. I am now submitting my log obtained running HijckThis.

Please reply as soon as possible. I am so frustrated with this. I think you should take the necessary measures to list spyaxe as spyware instead of anti-spyware. It seems clear that they are trying to force people to buy their spyaxe and other applications.

Hello victor2025

Please print out these instruction's for use in Safe Mode.

We need to Disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

Step 1

Configure Windows to Show all hidden files & folders.

Download SmitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite from here.
  • When installing Ewido, under "Additonal Options" uncheck "Install Background Guard" and "Install Scan Via Context Menu".
  • Launch Ewido by double-clicking the desktop icon and click 'OK' at the "Database could not be found!" warning.
  • Click "Update" on the left side of the main screen to update the definitions file.
  • Then click "Start Update".
  • When you receive the "Update successful" prompt, close Ewido Security Suite.
  • Note: If you have any problems with the updater, you can update Ewido manually

Step 2

Very Important !!
Please now Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
And follow Steps 2-4.

Open C:\Windows\system32
Locate the file svchosts.dll Be sure of the spelling! There is a system file with a similar name.
Delete it.
Locate the folder named 1024 and delete it.
Open C:\Program Files\SpyAxe, locate the uninstall.exe file and double click it to run.
Delete the SpyAxe folder.

Step 3

Open the SmitRem folder and double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named Smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Step 4

Open Ewido and scan your machine.
  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • Warning: Do NOT open any other windows or your Control Panel while scanning as it may prevent scan completion!!
  • When prompted to clean the first infection, select "Remove" and checkmark the box beside "Perform action on all infections" in the left corner.
  • Upon scan completion, click the Save report button and save the report.txt to your desktop.
  • Then close Ewido Security Suite.

Reboot back into Normal Mode

Please post a new HijackThis Log, the contents of Smitfiles.txt
and the Ewido Log in your next reply.

Thank you, ourwilly.
