Hi

Sorry for the delay, I was away.

RegAssissn asks me to enter the registry for deletion, when I open it
If I rightclick - asks for a password if I enter as Administrator - which I don't have
if I enter as User, it gives me a RUN TIME ERROR 481

Am I missing something?

thanks for your help!

Hi Sandra,

We will try it a different way, you can delete regassasian as we won't use it again.

Step 1:
  • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe.
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
:services
KLIF
BDFsDrv
BDRsDrv

:files
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\klif.sys
C:\Program Files\Softwin\BitDefender10

:reg
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"SUPERAntiSpyware"=-

:commands
[emptytemp]
[reboot]

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3

Step 2:
Run RSIT.exe by double clicking it and post the following:
  • The OTMoveit3 log
  • The new RSIT log
Also let me know how your computer is running.

Hi!

I already tried that - it prompts for a registry key to delete.

I must have missed something in your instructions. as I'm uncertain what registry(ies) I was suppose to delete.

After the diagnosis from PCPitsop, I searched for freeware on majorgeeks and ran:

CCleaner
RegCleaner
CBI

I think they perform the functions of PCPitstop - they removed numerous orphan files and cleaned out the cache.

Here is a new HJT

Hello Sandra and happy halloween!

Don't worry too much about the other instructions it was just to clear out a few legit leftovers. You seem to be malware free and your issues look to from the lack of RAM and when you get some more you really should notice an improvement.

I'm not a big fan of automated registry cleaners they can sometimes cause more harm than good, I would suggest you remove them but it's your choice.

Step 1:
Let's clear out the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for general malware removal and could cause damage if used inappropriately.

  • Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.
Also delete RSIT.exe, Regassaian.exe and ny logs we produced.

Your logs are now clean. :D :D
If you still feel you are having any issues please let me know now, otherwise read through the following:

Below are some steps to follow in order to dramatically lower the chances of reinfection
You may have already implemented some of the steps below, however you should follow any steps that you have not already implemented
  • Make sure you install all the security updates for Windows, Internet explorer & Microsoft Office
Whenever a security problem in its software is found, Microsoft will usually create a patch for it to that after the patch is installed, attackers can't use the vulnerability to install malicious software on your PC, so keeping up with these patches will help to prevent malicious software being installed on your PC
Go here to check for & install updates to Microsoft applications
Note: The update process uses activex, so you will need to use internet explorer for it, and allow the activex control that it wants to install
  • Keep your non-Microsoft applications updated as well
Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities, to check for other vulnerable programs running on your PC that are in need of an update, you can use the Secunia Software Inspector - I suggest that you run it at least once a month
  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    Click Start > Run
    Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    Click on the Security tab
Click Reset all zones to default level
Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Install a Hosts File
    I recommend MVPS Hosts File
Every version of windows includes a hosts file as part of them. A hosts file is a bit like a phone book, it points to the actual numeric address (i.e. the IP address) from the human friendly name of a website. This feature can be used to block malicious websites
On some PCs, having a custom HOSTS file installed can cause a significant slowdown. Following these instructions should resolve the issue
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type services.msc & click OK
    • In the list, find the service called DNS Client & double click on it.
    • On the dropdown box, change the setting from automatic to manual.
    • Click OK & then close the Services window
For a more detailed explanation of the HOSTS file, click here
  • The last and most important thing I can tell you is UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE.
If you don't update your security programs (Antivirus, Antispyware, even Windows) then you are at risk.
Malware changes on a day to day basis. You should update every week at the very least.

Miekiemoes an expert in malware removal has a fantastic article on how to prevent Malware for further tips, it's well worth a read. http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miek ... ntion.html

Please reply to this topic one more time so I know you have read through it or with any questions you may have.

Please add to post as I was trying to follow the instructions and had some problems - also ran new HJT

Deleted OTMoveIt3.exe, RSIT and Regassassin

Ran Secunia - detailed the various programs which required updates

Is it ok to delete old program versions? like Adobe 4.1 and 5.0?

Cannot load ActiveX on my System - Microsoft will not accept it and am prevented from updating including FIREFOX

Cannot load Adobe 8.0 says to close Firefox, once closed, hangs there

Reset ActiveX in IE - followed your instructions and changed all 3 settings

ActiveX controls & plugins checked as disabled - Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt? Will this affect the changes you recommended above? Downloaded the hosts file.

I have adjusted the Virtual Memory to allow the system to select for best performance, as RAM for this system is quite costly for the minimal amount you get.

Today I ran Malwarebytes and it discovered 3 viruses: 2 from Adware and 1 from Vuondo which I deleted.

Thanks for your help

Sandra

Re: Very slow FF & email - SpywareTerminator - Joke.Infect

Hello Sandra,

Is it ok to delete old program versions? like Adobe 4.1 and 5.0?
I presume you are referring to Adobe Acrobat here, this is a paid program if you remove it you will have to pay for the latest version.

Cannot load ActiveX on my System - Microsoft will not accept it and am prevented from updating including FIREFOX
I'm not sure what you mean here, ActiveX controls will not work with Firefox. ActiveX is only compatible with Internet Explorer.

Cannot load Adobe 8.0 says to close Firefox, once closed, hangs there
Adobes products can be quite resource intensive, again this may be caused by your small amount of RAM.

ActiveX controls & plugins checked as disabled - Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt? Will this affect the changes you recommended above?
If you have it checked as disabled it's fine.

Today I ran Malwarebytes and it discovered 3 viruses: 2 from Adware and 1 from Vuondo which I deleted.
Could you please post the Malwarebytes log from this scan, it should be the last log file under the Logs tab in malwarebytes.

Your HijackThis log is still clean.

Hi!

Re: deleting earlier programs ie Adobe 4.1 and ActiveX- Secunia Scan identified older versions that required update - some were in F: drive - is it necessary to update these to current versions?

ok d/n realize ActiveX was IE only - thanks

Adobe & Firefox
- some web files won't load claiming no Adobe Flash
- is there another program that is compatible to FF & performs a similar function
- should I delete the program since it won't execute?

Here's the MalwareBytes log:

Hi,

It's often best to update programs to their current versions as they will usually have bug and security fixes that older versions will not. However proprietary (paid for) programs may require payment of some sort to update to their latest version and that decision whether you want to spend money or not is up to you, so you may like to keep the older version.

If you use noScript addon or similar with Firefox it might stop flash files from loading on some websites. An alternative to Flash is Gnash, I have never used it so I can't comment on how effective it is. You can uninstall Flash if you no longer feel it's necessary.

Malwarebytes removed 3 leftover registry keys from when you were previously infected. They are harmless in isolation, MBAM must have recently tweaked its definitions which is why it is detecting them now. Your computer to the best of my knowledge is still clean. :)

You can check this entry with HijackThis:
O2 - BHO: Act.UI.InternetExplorer.Plugins.AttachFile.CAttachFile - {D5233FCD-D258-4903-89B8-FB1568E7413D} - mscoree.dll (file missing)
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked! It is just a leftover.
