Real trouble with Spytrooper

Unread postby seezed » November 12th, 2005, 4:00 pm

Hi

I've done a scan with everything I have (adaware, spybot, cwshredder, stinger, avg etc) both in normal and safe mode with system restore switched off but I can't seem to get rid of Spy Trooper and whatever else is on here. One thing that always seems to remain regardless of what I do is "mousecrm.exe". My net surfing is down to a snail's pace and both Ewido and winpatrol alert me to spyware, but despite ewido cleaning the files they are always back. Upon each the problem hijacker file is replaced by one of a different name. I'm constantly having to get rid of popups and security warnings. My pc is plagued.

Please help - below is my latest HJT log:

Dedicated HIJACKTHIS FOLDER NEEDED: – very important
Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or directly on the Desktop.

Backups of what it repairs are made - should anything go wrong you might need to restore some of those fixes. Additionally, as now setup, those backup items could create a lot of annoying clutter or be unintentionally lost (because of TEMP file cleanup procedures).

You need to set up a dedicated HijackThis folder to ensure that available recovery features of the tool are possible should they be needed. Create a folder HJT such as C:\Program Files\HJT, C:\HJT or [desktop]\HJT. Copy or drag-and-drop the HijackThis program to the newly created folder. Then make or alter the shortcut to the HJT program.

It might not be a bad idea to disable WinPatrol before proceeding any further.

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions! Leave out any scans that you have already done.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup. Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {e9ccf15d-4c68-4b5a-9e9a-8e12e4bd39bd} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hp8C4D.tmp (SmitFraud)

O16 - DPF: {FF3F0F03-0F01-131A-A3F9-08F02B23E0CC} - http://66.117.37.13/gba2218.exe (DIALER)

O21 - SSODL: ASUS Probe V2.21.08 - {73C65491-F012-E183-22A9-B568C20AD02C} - (no file)
O23 - Service: Mouse Cursor Monitor (mousecrm) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousecrm.exe (file missing)

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested (below) in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked (PRO version only)!

Save the Panda scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log.

Let us know if any problems persist.

Ever since the pc has had this problem it has gradually become slower and slower - especially after boot-up. Pages in windows explorer take ages to load as to thos in IE Explorer. Taskmanager shows close to 100% CPU usage of all processes - with System Idle Process clocking the most. One of the noticable problems is with my soundcard (whether this is as a result of the infection or just a coincidence, I don't know) I have a Terratec DMX6fire with the latest drivers I've had it for a year with no problems at all. For some reason this shows as using between 25-50% CPU usage whilst its not in use. When it is in use all sounds are in slow motion, garbled and distorted regardless of whether the audio is windows beeps and sounds, cd or mp3.

Thankjs again for your help.

A very resistant cws.searchmeup keeps showing up with a different name each time you delete it.

The following tool may be able to fix that issue:

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):
http://www.webroot.com/downloads/

  • Click the Free Trial link on the right - next to "SpySweeper for Home Computers" to download the program.
  • Double-click the file to install it as follows:
    • Click "Next", read the agreement, Click "Next"
    • Choose "Custom" click "Next".
    • Leave the default installation directoy as it is, then click "Next".
    • UNcheck "Run SpySweeper at Windows Startup" and "Add Sweep for Spyware to Windows Explorer Context Menu". Click "Next".
    • On the following screen you can leave the e-mail address field blank, if you wish. Click "Next".
    • Finally, click "Install"
  • Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
    Disable SpySweeper Shields
    • Click Shields on the left.
    • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
    • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
    • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Once the definitions are installed and shields disabled, click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.

Post the SpySweeper session log here along with a fresh HiJackThis log.

Alternatively,
http://www.virusportal.com/com/virusinf ... ?news=6189
A relately simple solution would appear to be to subscribe to the Panda Activescan Pro service ($20 annually) for direct removal of ALL items found by Panda.

A similar situation with a successful outcome can be found here:

With regard to my earlier reply is there any relationship with spyware infection and my audio problems or is it merely coincidence?

Thanks.

Sorry, I appear to have missed getting a notification of your response.

With regard to my earlier reply is there any relationship with spyware infection and my audio problems or is it merely coincidence?

Generally, I would suggest that there should be no connection.
