My thread keeps getting archived because of my lack of response... my computer isn't running properly, that is the reason for the "Lack of Response"...

anyways, I followed the instructions for malware removal, and here is what happened:

1. downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware, installed with default setting and updated the program
2. I put computer in "safe" mode.
3. executed "SmitfraudFix.exe and part way thru the computer crashed, but I did get this rapport.txt file:
SmitFraudFix v2.356

4. the next procedure wasn't requested, but I did it anyways... I ran Microsoft Regclean...
5. delected all from C:\Windows\Temp
6. cleaned out Temporary Internet files
7. emptied Recycle Bin
8. configured SUPERAntiSpyware as per instructions...
9. ran the SUPERAntiSpyware and the computer crashed... no scan logs :(

You are running HijackThis from temp folder and that needs to be corrected.

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank (if you haven't set it)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O21 - SSODL: bestreak - {874443fe-aa33-4ebf-a6ac-73208787e62d} - (no file)
O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: {874443fe-aa33-4ebf-a6ac-73208787e62d} - bestreak - (no file)

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.

Reboot.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

hi there! I did all the steps up to step 5.

then during the scan my computer crashed, I made sure that Norton and SUPERAntiSpyware was disabled, and then went back to the site, and it wouldn't let me even update as I got this error message:
Update has failed. Program has failed to start. Close the Kaspersky Online Scanner 7.0 window and open it again to install the program. You must be online to update the Kaspersky Online Scanner 7 database. With the latest database updates, you can find new viruses and other threats. Please go online to use Kaspersky Online Scanner 7. [ERROR: Antivirus database corrupted or manually updated]

I closed it and opened it 2 more times and I got this same error message...

You may want to try scanning with another browser (firefox, opera).

If you want to use IE, please run this scan instead:

Please go to Eset website to perform an online scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.

  1. Check (tick) this box: YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  2. Click on the Start button next to it.
  3. When prompted to run ActiveX. click Yes.
  4. You will be asked to install an ActiveX. Click Install.
  5. Once installed, the scanner will be initialized.
  6. After the scanner is initialized, click Start.
  7. Uncheck (untick) Remove found threats box.
  8. Check (tick) Scan unwanted applications.
  9. Click on Scan.
  10. It will start scanning. Please be patient.
  11. Once the scan is done, you will find a log in C:\Program Files\esetonlinescanner\log.txt. Please post this log in your next reply.

1. went to Eset website and followed procedures, couldn't finish, due to IE experiencing difficulties and closed.
2. downloaded Firefox and went back to Kaspersky site and followed procedures... computer crashed!

maybe I should just re-format my computer?

No as that can be hardware related issue as well.

Please try to run this:

We need to run a system scan with Dr. Web CureIt
  1. Please download DrWeb-CureIt & save it to your desktop.
DO NOT perform a scan yet.
  2. Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". Do not select "Safe Mode with Networking" or "Safe Mode with Command Prompt".
  3. Double-click on drweb-cureit.exe to start the program. An "Express Scan of your PC" notice will appear.
  4. Under "Start the Express Scan Now", Click "OK" to start. This is a short scan that will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it.
  5. Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  6. Choose the "Scan tab" and UNcheck "Heuristic analysis"
  7. Back at the main window, click "Complete Scan"
  8. Then click the "Start/Stop Scanning" button (green arrow on the right) and the scan will start.
  9. When done, a message will be displayed at the bottom advising if any viruses were found.
  10. Click "Yes to all" if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  11. When the scan has finished, look if you can see the icon next to the files found. If so, click it, then click the next icon right below and select "Move incurable".
(This will move it to the C:\Documents and Settings\userprofile\DoctorWeb\Quarantine folder if it can't be cured)
  12. Next, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list.
  13. Save the DrWeb.csv report to your desktop.
  14. Exit Dr.Web Cureit when done.
  15. Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  16. After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web in your next reply. (You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report)
In your next reply, please include the following:
  • Dr.Web's Log

I'm replying from my husband's computer now because of the following:

1. I am unable to do the F8 to get to SAFE MODE, so I used the RUN comand > msconfig > chose SAFE BOOT from there...

2. In SAFE MODE, when I log on, and get to the black screen, it seems to be trying to load desktop icons, and then crashes...

3. I did this about a dozen times, and one time an error box flashed with a message, but it crashed. I did see that it said Lsass.exe or something like that?!??

anyways, I can't even get into SAFE MODE now  .. any suggestions?

thanks in advance
