Welcome to MWR..Sorry you had to visit under these circumstances but let's see if we can change those.

First of all, you will want to print out this post or save a copy as a text file in Notepad so that you have a hard copy of these instructions; you can not have IE/Firefox/any browser open during the fix.

Download smitRem.exe©noahdfear and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
  • Install ewido.
  • During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido
  • It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
  • On the left side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start and let it update.
  • DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.
Detailed instructions for setting up Ewido can be read HERE

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = c:\secure32.html

and click FIX CHECKED.

Close HiJackThis.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

This tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg C:\smitfiles.txt. Please include a copy of this log in your next reply.

Without reboot (Still in SafeMode)

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
* Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
* A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send(*NOTE it's perfectly safe to do so..You will NOT be spammed from this)
- Select either Home User or Company
* Click the big Scan Now button
* If you get a notice that Panda wants to install an ActiveX component-- allow it
* It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the
  • Panda scan report
  • a new HijackThis Log
  • a copy of smitfiles.txt
  • Ewido Log
in a reply to this thread. It may take more than one post ..that's OK

Let's make sure you got rid of ALL the L2M infections and your registry keys are in good shape. Afer we verify this we'll finish cleaning you up with HijackThis; barring any unforseen problems.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If you receive an error similar to the following, while running option #1:
''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."
...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. Do NOT run the fix portion without fixing this first.
