Unread postby sahar » October 2nd, 2008, 7:42 pm

I'm unable to remove Smitfraud-C / Malware from my system. I've tried Spybot and Smitfraudfix both on safe mode and regular but I still can't remove the application.

The log below is from a scan performed using HijackThis.

Does anyone have any suggestions??

Hello sahar,

I will be assisting you with your malware issues.

  • Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean! If you have any question or you're stuck in there please reply it to me. I will try my best to help you!
  • Please bookmark or favourite this page. In case you need it as reference or etc.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you are using Windows Vista you must right click on the desktop icon and choose Run as Administrator all tools.
----------------------------------------------
Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process.

Spybot S&D's tea timer normally provides real-time protection from spyware, however it may interfere with what we need to do. We will disable it until the machine is clean when it can be re-enabled.

First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For Either Version :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
  • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.
----------------------------------------------
USING TASK MANAGER

Stop the following processes using Task Manager (press ctrl+alt+del, select the Processes tab, highlight the first process in the list and click End Process). Continue through the list (one at a time) until all processes have been ended. If something isn't found, please continue with the next process in the list.

lphc761j0evbw.exe

----------------------------------------------
FIX HIJACKTHIS ENTRIES

Right click on HijackThis and click Run as administrator
Click on do a system scan only
Place a checkmark next to these lines(if still present)

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: CBrowserHelperObject Object - {CA6319C0-31B7-401E-A518-A07C3DB8F777} - C:\Program Files\Dell\BAE\BAE.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lphc761j0evbw] C:\Windows\system32\lphc761j0evbw.exe

Then close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked
Close HijackThis.
----------------------------------------------
Show All Files And Folders in Vista
Now you need to show all files and folders
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select Folder and Search Options
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
----------------------------------------------
Using Windows Explore by right-clicking the Start button and left clicking Explore navigate to and find the following folders/files: if found, delete the following (some may not be present after previous steps):

Folder
C:\Program Files\Dell\BAE

File
C:\Windows\system32\lphc761j0evbw.exe
----------------------------------------------
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Post that log back here.
----------------------------------------------
Post back:
A new HijackThis log.
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware report.
Tell me if the pc is running better now.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I was going through the differrent phases of your solution and have come across a problem.
I firstly disabled Spybots Teatimer as advised (I have Spybot 1.6 and still unchecked Resident Protection) and moved onto using Task Manager.
I was ending each process in the Processes tab when the computer restarted immediately after I ended csrss.exe. This is the message I received once the computer was restarted:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: f4
BCP1: 00000003
BCP2: 8663EBB0
BCP3: 8663ECFC
BCP4: 82044400
OS Version: 6_0_6001
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini100608-02.dmp
C:\Users\Law\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-37081-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Law\AppData\Local\Temp\WER2EC.tmp.version.txt

Read our privacy statement:

Have I done something wrong? I'm unable to move forward on the Processes tab.

Please advise
Thanks

Hi,

You were suppose only to stop this process:

lphc761j0evbw.exe

and not all of them.

Did you reboot your pc and still have that error?
If not reboot it.
Do you still get the error?

Can you open task manager now? but you can't access processes.tab?

If the error continues, let me know if you now how to reset your pc to your Last Restore Point?

Answer to me first, before you try anything.

I apologize for the mistake, it appears I misread your instructions.
I rebooted the PC and did not get the error again.
I also called someone to come in and look at this and this issue has now been resolved.

Thank you for your help.
