Can I add a word of caution about such topics.

With the wide use of search engines it is easy to gather info on any person. Providing 'real' names, what your username means, what your avatar is about etc etc just adds to the data someone can then find out about yourself.

Think of the field-day someone with identity theft on mind will be able to gleen from these posts.

Dont make it easy for them.

Argh, thanks for that Chris, yes my name did come up on the Google Search :pale:
But I had to use a very specific for mine, the others came up real easy. That's maybe because I'm not on many forums.

So giving our first name away is bad on the internet? How does someone find info about me when I say my avatar is of my dog?

IMHO a nickname is intended to keep your privacy away from untrusted people.

Some info could lead to deduction of others infos, that's a fact.

Besides, if it was possible to make this topic was available for only those of MRU, it would reduce the risk (I think).

Hi :),
I agree with you. As you can see, many of the others, including Chris have advised me against it.
Many have not replied to this thread, so I consider it dead.

Thank you for your views.
