All sorts of problems...

ok so the symptoms are really slow running, popups, text (mainly url's) being pasted into excel sheets and word documents that are open, AVG won't work (can't complete a scan, can't update), no anti-spyware programs are working, windows update not working, can't get to the task manager (disable by administrator apparently - this account was once the admin account), can't run regedit or msconfig.. plus probably a few other things I can't remember..

some background - this is a laptop that my sister was travelling with, so between it, her external hard drive, and her thumb drives, just abotu every internet cafe and youth hostel in teh world is accounted for..

oh yeah - it won't run hijackthis, and online virus scanners seem to make it crash

there is another user account on the computer which will sometimes let me get to teh task manager if that helps.. I tried installing HJT on that account but it doesnt even seem to install properly.

I know it is a long shot, but if anyone can think of a starting point, I'd love to hear it...

Cheers,

Nick

Welcome to the Malware removal Forums. Thank you for your patience.

If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped.

You should be able to install and run HijackThis after running ComboFix.

  1. Click noahdfear's Rename ComboFix.
  2. If it launches a file download dialog for download_file.exe from noahdfear.net, click Run.
  3. download_file.vbs file should appear on the desktop, and shortly thereafter a renamed copy of ComboFix.
  4. Please note that the "vbs" file is recognized by some security programs as a "Trojan-Downloader.JS" and may try to block it. I assure you, the file is safe.
  5. If successful, double click the renamed ComboFix and follow the prompts.

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
