Trojan.Generic.565368

Unread postby anti-jkc » September 4th, 2008, 1:55 pm

The Bold part following is new information: My computer will no longer run any programs. It tells me the file is not associated. I have searched for web help and cannot even get a .reg fix to work nor can I get the regedit application to open if the name is changed to regedit.com System restore will not run and it is the same in safe mode.

HijackThis will not even run, though I have a log file from when it did work which is pasted below. Please help!!!!

My BitDefender anti-virus program has identified a virus it calls Trojan.Generic.565368 but I can find no info on this in their database and it seems unable to deal with the threat. Its brief summary follows the HijackThis log.

I use Windows Vista Home 32-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My HijackThis log follows:

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Carolyn and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Hello,

Let's see if we can use the Recovery Console to run System Restore

First we need to start the Recovery Console

  • If your computer has preinstalled recovery options:

    1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer. Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
      • If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
    3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press ENTER. (If Repair your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer does not include the System Recovery Options menu as a preinstalled recovery option.)
    4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next. Select a user name and enter the password, and then click OK.
    5. On the System Recovery Options menu, click System Restore.
  • If your computer does not have preinstalled recovery options, you will have to use your Windows Vista installation disc:

    1. Insert the installation disc
    2. Restart your computer. Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.
    3. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    4. Click Repair your computer.
    5. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    6. On the System Recovery Options menu, click System Restore.

Next, Restore your computer with System Restore
System Restore automatically recommends the most recent restore point created before a significant change, such as installing a program. You can also choose from a list of restore points.
Try using restore points created just before the date and time you started noticing problems.

Boot to Normal Mode and log in to your usual account.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
  1. Right-click on mbam-setup.exe and select Run as administrator to install it.
  2. Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):
      Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  3. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
  4. Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
  5. Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
  6. When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
  7. Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
  8. After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

Next,
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on RSIT.exe and select Run as administrator to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Please post the following:
  1. The Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware log
  2. The contents of log.txt
  3. The contents of info.txt

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
