Hi Screed92,

Welcome to Malware Removal. :)

Sorry for the delay, we are swamped with logs.

Step 1

Please go to Virus Total or Jotti and upload C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ehobivcp\otytelah.exe for scanning.

For Virus Total

  1. Please copy and paste C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ehobivcp\otytelah.exe in the text box next to the Browse button.
  2. Click on Send File.

For Jotti

  1. Please copy and paste C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ehobivcp\otytelah.exe in the text box next to the Browse button.
  2. Click on Submit.

Repeat for these files:

    C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Temp\setup1054.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Temp\f.exe

Step 2

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  7. Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

Do you know anything about this page - http://www.qualitypage.com/asians/7/11.jpg ?

Unread postby Screed92 » September 8th, 2008, 3:57 pm

Thanks for getting back to me.

My father-in-law is having some connectivity issues at the moment. Nothing related to this problem, something to do with the cable. It may be a few days till I can access his system since I'm trying to remotely fix his stuff from outside the US. At any rate, I'll post the requested information as soon as I can. I just wanted to let you know that I am keeping an eye on this forum.

At any rate, I am not familiar with the image you had at the bottom of your post. I would check the link out myself but if that is what's hiding the bad egg I don't want to open it on my system.

Like I said, I'll post the information as soon as I can get it. I'll keep checking the site and give you an update every couple of days so we can keep this thread open.

Thanks again.

Re: Using Remote Control to fix in-laws computer & I'm stymied

Unread postby ndmmxiaomayi » September 9th, 2008, 11:29 am

Hi Screed92 :)

One thing to note.

All our fixes require administrative rights. By using a remote control software, we may never be able acquire administrative rights. It could be by design, as remote control software are considered to be dangerous when abused. However, if the remote control software that you're using allows you to have administrative rights, that would not be an issue.

Step 1

Disable Spyware Doctor temporarily

Please disable Spyware Doctor temporarily as it may interfere with the fixes. We'll re-enable it when the computer is clean.

  1. Right click on Spyware Doctor icon in the system tray (near the clock).
  2. Select Disable OnGuard.
  3. OnGuard will open a prompt. Select Permanently turn off OnGuard (not recommended) from the drop-down list and click OK.
  4. Right click on the Spyware Doctor icon again and select ShutDown.
  5. Restart the computer for OnGuard to be disabled.

Disable Spybot Teatimer temporarily

Please disable Spybot Teatimer as it may interfere with the fixes. We'll re-enable it when the computer is clean.

  1. Right click the Spybot Icon in the system tray near the clock (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol).
  2. Click once on Resident Protection, then right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  3. Go to Start > All Programs > Spybot - Search & Destroy > Spybot Search & Destroy.
  4. Click on Mode > Advanced Mode. When it prompts you, click Yes.
  5. On the left hand side, click on Tools.
  6. Check (tick) this box if it is not yet ticked: Resident.
  7. You will notice that Resident is now added under Tools. Click on Resident.
  8. Uncheck (untick) this box: Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active.
  9. Exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
  10. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Disable McAfee temporarily

Please disable McAfee Antivirus temporarily as it may interfere with the fixes. Remember to re-enable it before posting back the logs.

Please navigate to the system tray on the bottom right hand corner and look for a Image sign.

Right click on the icon and select Exit.

A popup will warn that protection will now be disabled. Click on Yes to disable the Antivirus guard.

Step 2

If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofi ... e-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once Recovery Console is installed, you should see a blue screen prompt like the one below:

Image

Click Yes to allow Combofix to continue scanning for malware.

When done, a log will be produced. Please post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Combofix log (C:\Combofix.txt)
  2. A new HijackThis log

Father in law is still having connectivity issues. Hopefully he'll have it resolved by the end of the week. I'll follow previous instructions and post necessary logs when his connection is back up.
