Youngsters here probably don't speak much different to the ones where you are, they have a language all of their own. Based on "text speech", it's a mixture of appalling grammar and spelling, and almost indecipherable to anyone over 30 years of age. ;) :D

Yeah it's sad how bad some people's grammar has become. People here use double negatives and they don't even know it.

I Ain't getting no money today.

Translated ( ;) ): I am not getting no money today

Translated again: I am getting money today.

Saying exactly what they didn't want to say.

As much as Gary will be disappointed, I can tawk reel good! then again I am not a real Aussie!

Ultimately I feel children talk as their parents do :cyclopsani: , so just maybe it is not the teenagers of today who have it wrong?

You were meant to. ;) :D

My real pet peeve is that kids over here are acquiring the Aussie rising intonation (from watching too much "Neighbours" and "Home and Away"), now that really is annoying. It sounds like they're asking non-stop questions all the time they're speaking.

Much as I love Australia and its people (I spent some really happy times in Melbourne and Adelaide as a lad), and all knobbling aside, the way you end sentences on a rising tone grates on the Anglo Saxon ear somewhat.

Please don't take this as a "snipe", it's the rising intonation I don't like, not the people who are speaking it. I have relatives in Melbourne.

Mine is pronounced Hold-en Mani-ac. Holden is a brand of car here in sweet Australia (Aust-ra-li-a :P)

Hey I'm 18 and I would like to think my grammar is on par with alot of the older generation...But I have always been brought up with the skill of being able to hold a sophisticated conversation with people a lot older than me.

That and I work in ISP Tech Support, so good grammar and the ability to speak in a clear and concise manner are a given.
