My mate is getting a lot of perverse pop-ups and has ran the standard malware stuff, so I got him to send me a hijackthis log. The only thing I can see iffy is the goldcard thing. Can someone with more knowledge take a look please..

Thanks Sat

Hello Sat481,

Wellcome to MRU :) . I noticed that it has been a couple of days since you've posted. If you still would like to get assistance, I would like to help you. I'll begin researching into the items in your log right away, but it may take some time. Whatever I propose to fix will have to be approved by my "guru" as well to make sure that you get the best service. So, it takes some time but that's for your benefit. In the mean time, if you have any questions, please come back to this thread and post it here. I'll be notified by email and will get back to you as soon as I can. See you later.

Hi Sat481,

I would like to start with some clean up and see first what's cleaned and what's left. Please download and update the following:

Ccleaner

Adaware SE

Spybot Search & Destroy Remember to "immunize" after updating to make sure that the latest definitions are included.

Ewido Security Suit

Run Ccleaner, Adaware and Spybot, in the same order below, following their instructions:

Run Ccleaner

Click on Options, Select Advanced Now UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
Make sure the Cleaner block on the left is selected. (Do not use the "Issues" block) Choose the Windows tab.
Check everything EXCEPT cookies, the Autocomplete Form History and the Advanced part of the Menu.
Choose Run Cleaner. This process could take a while.
When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished. Click Exit.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode using the F8 method below. Let me know if you run into any problems doing that:

a. If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
b. Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
c. Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
d. Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
e. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Ewido Security Suit

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Settings, and under "What to scan?", select "Every file" then click ok.
Then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again. Do Not reboot yet.

Spybot S & D

a. In the Menu Bar at the top of the Spybot window you will see 'Mode'. Make certain that 'default mode' has a check mark beside it.
b. Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
c. Next click the button 'Check for Problems'
d. When Spybot is complete, it will be showing RED entries, BLACK entries and GREEN entries in the window.
e. Make sure that there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.
f. Choose Fix Selected Problems and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.

If it has trouble removing any spyware, you will get a message window, asking if it would be ok to run Spybot - S&D on the next reboot before any other applications start running. You should reply Yes to this. The next time you start Windows, Spybot will run automatically and fix any of the programs it could not fix previously.

At this point you will be presented with the list of found entries again, but now there will be large green checkmarks next to the items that Spybot - S&D was able to remove. The ones that are still checked but do not have the large green checkmark next to them will be fixed on the next reboot of windows. Do not reboot yet.

Adaware SE

Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

a. Click on the Gear Icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the Configuration Window.

b. Click on the General Button on the left and select in green
Under Safety
o Automatically save log-file
o Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
o Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
Under Definitions
o Prompt to update outdated definitions - set to 7 days

c. Click on the Scanning Button of the left and select in green
Under Driver, Folders & Files
o Scan Within Archives
Under Select drives & folders to scan
o choose all hard drives
Under Memory & Registry
o Scan Active Processes
o Scan Registry
o Deep Scan Registry
o Scan my IE favorites for banned URL's
o Scan my Hosts file

d. Click on the Advanced Button on the left and select in green
Under Shell Integration
o Move deleted files to Recycle Bin
Under Logfile Detail Level
o Include addtional object information
o DESELECT - Include negligible objects information (make it show a red X)
o Include environment information
Under Alternate Data Streams
o Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
o Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

e. Click the Tweak Button and select in green
Under the Scanning Engine (Click on the + sign to expand)
o DESELECT Unload recognized processes & modules during scan (make it show a red X)
o Scan registry for all users instead of current user only
Under the Cleaning Engine (Click on the + sign to expand)
o Always try to unload modules before deletion
o During Removal, unload Explorer and IE if necessary
o Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
Under the Log Files (Click on the + sign to expand)
o Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
o Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
o Include reference summarry in log file
o Include alternate data stream details in log file

f. Click on Proceed to save the settings.
g. Click on the Scan Now Button and select Perform Full System Scan

h. DESELECT Search for negligible risk entries, as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat. (make it show a red X)
i. Click Next to begin the scan. When the scan is completed, the Performing System Scan screen will change name to Scan Complete.

j. Click the Next Button to get to the Scanning Results Window where more information about the objects detected during the scan is available.
k. Click the Critical Objects Tab. In general all of the items listed will be bad. To fix all the bad critical objects, right click on one of them, click the Select All entry in the pop-up menu to mark all entries. Click Next and then OK in the dialog box to confirm the removal.

Reboot in Normal Mode

Run an online virus scan here

Please post back a new HijackThis log and the scan results of Panda and Ewido.
