Several Malware Problems!

Unread postby Reaper » August 29th, 2008, 4:12 am

Hi all, I think I have some malware problems and I’m not sure how to rectify these issues. I have used a couple of malware removers and have managed to remove web page pop-ups and anti-virus pops-ups in the notification area. However I still have some persistent problems, they are as follows: -

This appears in the notification area: -
“Your computer might be at risk
Automatic updates is turned off
Click this balloon to fix this problem”
This is not the case, as I have checked through the control panel menus and Automatic updates are turned on.

Spybot Search & Destroy finds the following during start-up: -
“Spybot Search & Destroy has detected an important registry entry that has changed
Category: System Start-up user entry
Change: Value Deleted
Entry: SpybotDeletingB8611
Old Data: Command /C del C:\Windows\System32\hgGyoNh.dll”
This appears five times with a different entry number each time when I deny the change.

Also upon start-up the following warning screen appears: -
“Rundll
Error loading C:\Windows\System32\bosactdi.dll
The specified module could not be found”

I would be grateful if someone could help me out, many thanks.

Here is my Hijackthis Log: -

Hi Reaper

We will begin with ComboFix. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

  1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Please do not run ComboFix on your own. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Code: Select all
Driver::
Wincj81
Winkj60
Winnj58
Winqh61
Winub56

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\Wincj81.sys]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\Winkj60.sys]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\Winnj58.sys]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\Winqh61.sys]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\Winsa35.sys]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\Winub56.sys]

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Empty this folder:

C:\QooBox\Quarantine\

Delete these:

C:\Program Files\Orange\OBar\orange3setup.exe
C:\Program Files\Orange\setup\Orange_icons.EXE

Empty Recycle Bin.

Still problems?

Hi Shaba

I have deleted those files and all seems to be fine. However I am having difficulty reactivating Avast Antivirus, as I cannot seem to get the two icons to reappear in the notification area.

Thanks

It looks like that all avast! processes are running so that might be a bug.

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing avast! ?

No, all seems fine, but I tend to find that explore is running slower now compared to before the malware issues.
