Hello Kates,

Run Windows Cleanup.
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files".
Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.
Right click the Recycle Bin icon and Empty the Recycle Bin

Now, in Windows Explorer, delete all the files in the following folders. Please do NOT delete the folders themselves, just all the files that they contain.
C:\Windows\Prefetch\
C:\Windows\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

If more users than Owner empty the following folders too:

C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Username)\Local Settings\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\(All other Usernames)\Local Settings\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Username)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
C:\Documents and Settings\(All other Usernames)\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\

FIREWALL
Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. If you use the Windows Firewall you might think that's sufficient but it only controls one way of the traffic (inbound). Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. It's preferable to install one of the suggested firewalls.
After installing the new Firewall, make sure your Windows Firewall is OFF.

Let me know what how my 1st post instructions worked, and post a new HijackThis log.
Is the pc working ok?

1st instructions worked well but I could not find the last file. PC is still running fine and new firewall (Comodo) appears to have been installed and is up and running while Windows firewall has been turned off, although the taskbar is repeatedly sending out warnings about this?

Hello kates,

1st instructions worked well but I could not find the last file.

Ok, i gave you all the paths, where you could find that infected file, so you would be able to completely remove it.
I believe it's gone now. :)

although the taskbar is repeatedly sending out warnings about this?

Does it tell you that you don't have a firewall?

So i will post some steps, here, and see which one you missed.
Is this the way you disabled Windows firewall?

Start, Control Panel and click Security Center. Then click the Windows Firewall link at the bottom of the dialog box, check Off (not recommended) in the next window, and click OK.

This is probably the reason you get the warnings.

Windows may not recognize the third-party firewall installed on your PC. In such a case, Windows displays the security-warning icon in the system tray.

To disable the firewall security warning in the Security Center, click Recommendations in the Firewall pane, check 'I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself,' and click OK. Windows will then switch your firewall status to amber, and stop pestering you with firewall warnings in the system tray.
----------------------------------------------
Registry Cleaners

I notice the presence of Registry Mechanic Registry Cleaner on your pc.

I don't personally recommend the use of ANY registry cleaners.
Here is an excerpt from a discussion on regcleaners
Most reg cleaners aren't "bad" as such, but they aren't perfect and even the best have been known to cause problems.
The point we are trying to make is that the risk of using one far outweighs any benefit.
If it does work perfectly you will not see any difference.
If it doesn't work properly you may end up with an expensive doorstop.

http://forums.whatthetech.com/Regcleaner_t42862.html
----------------------------------------------
Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel, click on Add remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on remove. Then close the Control Panel.

Registry Mechanic << if you decide to uninstall it
    AskSBar

----------------------------------------------
FIX HIJACKTHIS ENTRIES

Open up Hijackthis.
Click on do a system scan only.
Place a checkmark next to these lines(if still present).

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.comodo.com/search/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

O2 - BHO: Ask Search Assistant BHO - {0579B4B1-0293-4d73-B02D-5EBB0BA0F0A2} - C:\Program Files\AskSBar\SrchAstt\1.bin\A2SRCHAS.DLL

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [RegistryMechanic] C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic\RegMech.exe /H << fix this line if you unistalled Registry Mechanic

Then close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked
Close HijackThis.
----------------------------------------------
Using Windows Explore by right-clicking the Start button and left clicking Explore navigate to and find the following Folders: if found, delete the following:

C:\Program Files\Registry Mechanic << only if you removed the program
C:\Program Files\AskSBar
----------------------------------------------
Post a new HijackThis log.
Let me know if the firewall warnings have stopped now.
