Pesky IE / Flash Popups -- HijackThis Log

Hey, I've been having some issues with malware. I normally don't download anything suspicious or have spyware/adware problems, but this problem just seems to be getting worse. I've tried everything I can think of, but the problem still exists. I've tried to clearly outline the situation and posted my HijackThis log below. Any help would be much appreciated before I resort to reformatting.

symptoms
-IE (hidden) randomly steals focus from active windows (if I press ctrl-F after this happens the IE search box appears -- that's the only indication that it's IE)
-fullscreen youtube or windows movie player videos exit fullscreen
-random windows click noises (IE page load)

in addition, these sites pop up randomly in IE windows (I don't use IE at all, only Firefox):

these flash ads pop up without a visible browser window and -close themselves after a few seconds:

-circuit city (DSLR, gift card, sony cybershot)
-HP (pavillion dv5t)
-lincoln, johnson & johnson? (right @ home)
-ABC & SOAP Network
-Shot of feet standing at a pool with text "This is where it starts"
-be a BRIT different
-discover card

attempted fixes:
-ran latest versions of Spybot and AdAware twice each -- found some problems and removed them
-ran SpywareBlaster
-ran AVG free -- found some problems and removed them
-posted HJT log to automatic analyzers -- inconsistent results, seeking advice before deleting anything

And while we're at it, does anyone happen to know if any old OEM copy of Windows XP Pro can be used to install a student license copy of XP Pro obtained through MSDN Academic Alliance, and if such a license allows a second activation? I ask because I'm not against reformatting, I'm just not sure if I'll be even more screwed by activation issues if I try to reinstall.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

• Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
• All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
• These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.

Have you deleted it ?
Stopped it in Task manager ?

If you still have the file submit it to Jottis /Virus total in my next set of instructions along
with the file I have listed there. Use the Browse button on the page to locate it.

On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste this filepath in there.
If theres is more than one file to scan, insert them 1 at a time.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please post the contents of that log.
