Unread postby dicky21 » August 10th, 2008, 2:52 pm

Hi, stumbled across this forum whilst trying to look for ways to get rid of this annoying trojan and saw that that so many people have been helped and thought id try and get some expert help. Basically i was infected with the virus on the other day and since then have used various programs and methods to try and get rid of it. So far the screen has stopped turning blue but i am still sometimes getting the fake windows security alerts in the middle of the screen. Im unsure ive ive got rid of all of it and would be very gratefull if someone could help me out in making sure its all gone.

Thanks, Richard

Hello, and welcome to Malware Removal Forums.
My name is Matt and I will be assisting you with your malware issues.
Please be patient as I need some time to review your HijackThis log and I will post back recommendations for repairs.
As I am still on training, everything that I post to you, must be checked by a Teacher. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long.

  • Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean! If you have any questions or you're stuck in there please reply it to me. I will try my best to help you! Not having symptoms of malware doesn't mean that you are clean!
  • Please do not carry out tasks on your own before I reply as this will only complicate things and may mean that my instructions are useless or dangerous!
  • Please bookmark or favourite this page. In case you need it as reference or etc.

To help you with your problem, please download Hijack This

  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
  • Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi again. Just quickly looked through that log and saw these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SMrhcn4lj0e73e] C:\Program Files\rhcn4lj0e73e\rhcn4lj0e73e.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lphcj4lj0e73e] C:\WINDOWS\system32\lphcj4lj0e73e.exe

Im pretty sure these are virus related as i had seen and heard on other websites about trying to get rid of the xp antivrus a configuration of numbers and letters that are different everytime. Prior to posting on this forum some of my antivirus and other programs had picked them up aswell and have been added to my startup and come back even when de-selected.

Just a heads up. Thanks

Hi
Thanks for the info :)

Remove one of your Anti Virus programs.
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:
Panda Security <-<- This may be a full suite including antivirus, firewall and antispyware. If you have a valid license I suggest you keep this
AVG8

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. It is even likely that you will have less protection, because neither anti-virus will be able to function to the best of its capability, as one will interfere with the other. However, and more importantly, it is common for multiple AV programs to cause crashes and even file corruption. Anti-virus programs are far more complicated, much larger and more invasive than ever before. All anti-virus, firewall, and some anti-spyware programs patch deep into the system kernel. Running multiple AV programs may even cause enough damage to an operating system that reformatting may be required in order to restore the system back to working order.

Please remove one of them

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process.

Spybot S&D's tea timer normally provides real-time protection from spyware, however it may interfere with what we need to do. We will disable it until the machine is clean when it can be re-enabled.

First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For Either Version :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
  • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware by double-clicking mbam.exe.
  • Click the Update tab and click Check for Updates button.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
    The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\<User name>\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Copy and Paste the log into your next reply

===============================
In your next reply can I please see the following:
  • mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • a new HijackThis log

Hi, thanks again for quik reply. At the moment things seem back to normal and the suspicious exe. 's that were starting up even when deselected in msconfig have decided to stop starting up which is good. I have deleted Panda Antivirus and disabled S+D tea Timer. As you can see below in the MBAM log nothing was found

Re: AntiVirus XP - keeps comming back :(

Unread postby mjq424 » August 14th, 2008, 3:06 am

Hi

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
***IMPORTANT*** - If you cannot get into Safe Mode using this method, please STOP and tell me!
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Hi

Download OTMoveIt2 by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files\ezpidie
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad\\prochlp

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
  • Close OTMoveIt2

Post a New HJT Log
Reboot your computer. Start HijackThis. Click Do System Scan and Save a Log File.
When the Scan is complete, select the whole log (Ctrl-A), copy and paste the log contents in a reply.
