Unread postby Shaba » August 9th, 2008, 5:07 am

Hi Garfielduk

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Ihave done what you asked and the contents are below; I did run Spybot and Ad-aware se after I posted and they both found stuff that I deleted or quarantined and have had no more alerts from Zonealarm about the problem BUT you can check if I am clear if that's okay or whether I need to do anymore things. Could you advise from the Hijackthis log whether I have processes or items there that are not required, looks like I have some duplications also. Thanks for your help, Gary

Let's check if there are leftovers which don't show up in logs:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Oh by the way, my zonelaram has done a scheduled scan and found items but I think it is bogus as they are linked with Smitfraud

notavirus:risktool.win32.reboot.f

AND

HOAX.Win32.Renos.vaoz

What should I do with these, ignore ?

OK, then please delete it.

After that:

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Yes but those are either part of tool or in system restore. I will give instructions how to empty it later.

You don't seem to have an antivirus so we need to install it next:

Looking over your log, it seems you don't have any evidence of an anti-virus software.

Anti-virus software are programs that detect, cleanse, and erase harmful virus files on a computer, Web server, or network. Unchecked, virus files can unintentionally be forwarded to others, including trading partners and thereby spreading infection. Because new viruses regularly emerge, anti-virus software should be updated frequently. Anti-virus software can scan the computer memory and disk drives for malicious code. They can alert the user if a virus is present, and will clean, delete (or quarantine) infected files or directories. Please download a free anti-virus software from one these excellent vendors NOW:

1) Antivir PersonalEdition Classic- Free anti-virus software for Windows. Detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses. Free support.
2) avast! 4 Home Edition - Anti-virus program for Windows. The home edition is freeware for noncommercial users.
3) AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition - Free edition of the AVG anti-virus program for Windows.

It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and false virus alerts. If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

Post back a fresh hijackthis log and tell me if you have some problems left?

Ah but I do, I have Zonealarm pro but I disabled it while Kaspersky was running as it said it might interfere with it.

Could you advise if I have any unwanted entries please and I seem to have some duplicates like 09 for SDHelper

Spybot 09 entries are not duplicates :)

They are both needed.

There are no unwanted entries but I can give tips what startup entries you can disable if you like to?

Oh by the way, I found the System Volume folder and deleted the Restore point with the entries found by Kaspersky, I assume that was what was required ?

Well we will flush entire system restore later :)

You can disable at least these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: Windows Desktop Search.lnk = C:\Program Files\Windows Desktop Search\WindowsSearch.exe
