as per today - 7-8-08 - i deleted a file called winimage v.810 wich was in disc d - and the trojan disapeared but - and this is a big but - all icons now have instead of a black signature, a blue one

• Start HijackThis
• Click on the Misc Tools button
• Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will see a list with the programs installed in your computer.
Click on save list button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into your next post.

dear katana, the problem seems to have been resolved. after deleting the program i deleted and uncheking a box in the compressing of files in disk d, icons have been restored to their initial form. all is well. thanks for repliyng though and if i happen to be in a mess i shall contact the forum again. im sure i will need to do it! - as i have spended more time trying to fix the pc than enjoying it. hugs from jerusalem
