Will malware affect the motherboard and go undetected?

Unread postby lightning001 » July 18th, 2008, 7:22 pm

Hi I had Chryssi2001 helping me remove a malware infestation and was wondering if it would cause an audio problem with the soundcard and or motherboard and go undetected. Here is a post of HJT.

Re: Will malware affect the motherboard and go undetected?

Unread postby Katana » July 22nd, 2008, 6:16 am

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

Please Note, your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use.
Be assured, any links I give are safe

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've had a look at your topic with Chryssi, and it is unlikely that you have a malware problem.
Occasionally drivers get corrupted and need to be reinstalled, so if the only problem you have is with your sound then I recommend that you try reinstalling the current drivers for your sound card.

Unfortunately, as this is a Malware teaching forum, I'm going to have to recommend that you visit one of the tech forums for assistance.

http://www.techsupportforum.com/
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/
http://forums.whatthetech.com/forums.html

All the forums above have good support for software/OS problems, and I'm sure they will be able to help.

Thank You Katana; The gentleman I was dealing with over the phone was trying to tell me that I had a malware problem. I explained to him that I had just gone through a lengthy session to remove any and all such infections and that the sound problem happened before I was aware of any infections. He seemed reluctant to have to deal with the warranty, and therefore having to replace the motherboard. Guess I'll be sending this thing in to have work done on it. Thanks again.

Lightning001

P.S. BTW we have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the soundcard twice and no good results have occurred, which sucks to say the least.
