Computer's Security

Unread postby GGiTzKevin » July 16th, 2008, 7:21 pm

I just want some recommendations for an antivirus and an antispyware (based on detection rates) and a firewall. It doesn't matter if it's free or paid :)

Thanks in advance,
Kev

I think the best free AV (in terms on detection) is Avira.

Okay, so Kaspersky and Avira. What about antispyware and a firewall?

Ad-Aware

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Spybot-S&D

All three of those have real-time protection. Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware are both paid for real-time. Spybot has tea timer which is real-time.

Here is some links that may assist you:

http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ - Avira isn't on there but it is still highly recommended

Thanks for the replies :D My Avira Suite just expired yesterday so I needed to change my programs :) . I don't use Ad-Aware because I've heard that it's been dragging behind against the newest malware, etc.

I'll wait until there's a sale before I go buy anything new  (I'm a cheap person, don't like to spend money unless neccessary :P )

I wouldn't recommend Ad-Aware.

You could easile have set up like:

Online-Armor or Comodo free firewall and Avira as your free antivirus. Then i would add Sandboxie (Free) or Defensewall (paid) into your set up.

Winpatrol has real time protection and lives well with most everything and is extremely useful for other purposes.
I personally do not recommend AdAware, Spybot, or SuperAntiSpyware for different reasons. I also avoid SpySweeper as it has become too intrusive.

I haven't installed Ad-Aware since it left the SE version, and Spybot I heard became slower and more bloated. SuperAntispyware, well, I haven't heard any particular excellent review on it.
