There's some malware in your Java cache so lets clear it.
  • Press Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Click Java
  • Under Temporary Internet Files click Settings...
  • Now click Delete files...
  • Select both options and click OK
  • The temporary files will now be deleted.
  • When done click OK twice and close Control Panel

Clear Firefox Cache
For clearing the cache in English language versions of Firefox:
  • Click on Tools
  • Click on Options
  • Click on the Privacy tab
  • Click on the Settings button and a selection box will come up
  • Select cache as well as any other categories that you want Firefox to clear
  • Select OK to approve your selections and you will be returned to the Privacy tab again
  • Select the box Ask me before clearing private data or Always clear my private data when I close Firefox whichever option you prefer
  • Click on the Clear Now button and the cache, as well as any other options you selected, will be cleared
  • Click OK to exit the Options menu box.

Your JRE is out of date. The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs. Locate Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  2. Repeat for these old versions of JRE:

      J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
      J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_07
  3. Click here to visit Java's website.
  4. Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6. Click on Download.
  5. Select Windows from the drop-down list for Platform.
  6. Select Multi-language from the drop-down list for Language.
  7. Check (tick) I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement box and click on Continue.
  8. Click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe link to download it and save this to a convenient location.
  9. Run this installation to update your Java.

the java update..i saved it to my desktop and icon is that type of one that doesnt know which program to open java update with...when i double click on the icon a window pops up and says:

To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer.

What do you want to do?

1. Use the Web service to find the appropriate program.

2. Select the program from a list

Hi,legaci_23, Delete the version you downloaded.
When you go to the java website click on download "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7" then select your windows platform (windows) then check mark I agree.Click on windows online Installation "jre-6u7-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe" which will then down load to your default location.
Remove old versions of java. Double click the java icon that you have just down loaded and Installation should start.

Did you download the update first before removing the older versions?
Did you uninstall older versions first then download the new update then try to install.
I'm trying to find what is happening so the more information I have we can hopefully resolve the problem. :)

Hi, Is there a java icon in Control Panel?

Not sure why why you can't install, try this alternative link - http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runt ... d4648.html

download the latest version from MG first. Don't run it yet!

We need to reveal system folders

* Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
* Double-click on the My Computer icon.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
* After the new window appears select the View tab.
* Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders
* Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders
* Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types
* Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files
* Press the Apply and then the ok button and shut down my computer
* Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
* For you and the tools to be able to see appropriate files we need to Show Hidden Files

Go to this folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Application Data\Sun
Try the newest installer Java installers
Right click on the installer and select Repair. If this folder is not there I have something else to try.

Now try the update you downloaded!
dan

Edit: my apology I don't think that link works,I will try and find it for you.
