Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

I will be back as soon as possible with your first instructions!

Step # 1: Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Besides the Uninstall List, I'll also need to see a fresh HiJackThis Log.

Unread postby km2357 » July 6th, 2008, 4:51 pm

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

Ares

BitSpirit v3.1.0.077 Stable Release

Morpheus 5.3 (remove only)

Morpheus Toolbar

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

Also available here.

My recommendation is you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

Step # 1: Add/Remove Programs

Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel, click on Add Remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on remove. Then close the Control Panel.

Browser Optimizer Dcads

Browser Optimizer Superiorads

Search Assistant Dcads

Socialnetworking Helper Dcads

Reboot your Computer.

Step # 2 Upload Files

Go to Jotti
Copy the following line into the white textbox:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiiiex.dll
Click Submit.
Please post the results of this scan to this thread.

If Jotti is busy, Go to VirusTotal and scan the file(s) there.

Step # 3: Remove Hijackthis Entries

  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... ch/ie.html

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Display Properties -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop... -> Web tab, then uncheck and delete everything you find in there (except for "My Current Home Page"),

Also remove the checkmark from the the Lock Desktop Items box if it is checked.
Click Apply.
Click Apply and then Exit Display Properties.

Step # 4: Deleting Files/Folders

I need you to use Windows Explorer to delete the files/folders I have marked in Red(if found):

File:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\iebrowserc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\aeprlbw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nss3BD.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcprp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnmlmk.dll
C:\Program Files\Online Services\bapryprug.html
C:\Program Files\ComPlus Applications\bapryprug.html

Folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Start Menu\Programs\Absolute Poker

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. Jotti/Virustotal results
2. A fresh HiJackThis Log

Re: HJT log... Boaxxe.dll trojan

Unread postby Paul5003 » July 7th, 2008, 5:00 pm

When i tried to upload the files to the Jotti website I got the following message...

"The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"

I also tried it on the on the virus total website and got the same result. I did however remove all of the P2P applications. Any suggestions?

We can come back to file later, if need be. Do steps 1, 3, and 4 if you haven't already from my previous post and post back a fresh HJT log in your next post/reply.

To get into Windows Explorer, do the following:

Right-Click on the Start button and choose Explore.

Once the Windows Explorer Window opens up, find and delete the following files/folder in it, (if found):

File:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\iebrowserc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\aeprlbw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nss3BD.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcprp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnmlmk.dll
C:\Program Files\Online Services\bapryprug.html
C:\Program Files\ComPlus Applications\bapryprug.html

Folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Start Menu\Programs\Absolute Poker

Step # 1: Uninstall Weatherbug

WeatherBug is a system tray icon that offers weather information and includes built-in ads. WeatherBug is controlled by AWS Convergence Technologies (weatherbugmedia.com). There is some controversy over whether WeatherBug should be targeted by anti-parasite software. AWS strongly deny their software is ‘spyware’, and by the definition used here, it is not, as it does not leak information back to its controlling servers. However, WeatherBug has in the past been silently installed by the FavoriteMan parasite and Freeze.com screensavers, and more recently has been bundled by software such as AIM and Blubster. This makes it ‘unsolicited’, and since it is installed to raise money for its creators through the built-in ads it is certainly ‘commercial’. So it does meet the definition for ‘parasite’: unsolicited commercial software. It is nonetheless listed as a borderline case because it is not overtly harmful and many people do install it deliberately. WeatherBug bundles the MySearch parasite in its standalone distribution and has in the past, installed Gator and SVAPlayer.

I recommend that you uninstall WeatherBug and choose one of these alternatives:
Weather Watcher
or
Get Mozilla Firefox and then get FORECASTFOX!!!
or check the weather at these websites:
Weather Street: US Weather
Intellicast
To uninstall WeatherBug:

  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight WeatherBug, click Remove.
  • Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.

Step # 2 Remove Logitech Desktop Messenger

You appear to have a program on your system called Logitech® Desktop Messenger. This is a background process that can automatically access the Internet without your knowledge or permission. Although it does provide updates for your Logitech products, the fact that it can access the Internet without your consent is potentially dangerous. It does download and update your Logitech products but this can be done manually by visiting the Logitech web site. My advice would be to uninstall this program (Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs) but this is entirely your decision. I suggest doing all updates yourself and removing this application!

Step # 3 Update Java

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Remove the following old versions of Java:

  • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

    Java(TM) 6 Update 2

  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • From your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Step # 4: Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Step # 5 Download and Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Before running a scan, click the Update tab, next click Check for Updates to download any updates, if available.
  • Next click the Scanner tab and select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • You can also access the log by doing the following:
  • Click on the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware icon to launch the program.
  • Click on the Logs tab.
  • Click on the log at the bottom of those listed to highlight it.
  • Click Open.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. MalwareBytes' Log
2. A fresh HiJackThis Log

Step # 1 Update Adobe Acrobat Reader

There is a newer version of Adobe Acrobat Reader available. (See Note below)

  • First, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all previous versions.
  • Please go to this link Adobe Acrobat Reader Download Link
  • On the right Untick Adobe Phototshop Album Starter Edition if you do not wish to include this in the installation.
  • Click the Continue button
  • Click Run, and click Run again
  • Next click the Install Now button and follow the on screen prompts

Note: Adobe 9 is a large program and if you prefer a smaller program you can get Foxit 2.0 instead from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Step # 2: Stop some processes with Task Manager
Press Control+Alt+Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes (if present):

Weather.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Step # 3: Remove Hijackthis Entries

  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ares] "C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe" -h

    O9 - Extra button: Morpheus Toolbar - {119DBEDA-9c41-4F97-94B4-B6BCD01133CF} - (no file)

    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Morpheus Toolbar - {119DBEDA-9c41-4F97-94B4-B6BCD01133CF} - (no file)

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

Step # 4: Deleting Files/Folders

I need you to use Windows Explorer to delete the folders I have marked in Red(if found):

C:\Program Files\AWS
C:\Program Files\Ares

Step # 5: Run Kaspersky Online Scan

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. Kaspersky Log
2. A fresh HiJackThis Log
3. How is your computer doing, any problems?

Re: HJT log... Boaxxe.dll trojan

Unread postby km2357 » July 9th, 2008, 2:23 am

i keep getting the warning from my anti virus that the boaxxe trjoan has been found...

When McAfee gives you the warning about boaxxe trojan does it give you a location of the trojan or a filename? Or does it just tell you that the boaxxe trojan has been found?

Java was recently updated, so you'll need to update it again.

Step # 1 Update Java

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u7.

  • Java(TM) 6 Update 6

  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • From your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Step # 2: Remove Hijackthis Entries

  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D8B3D88C-AE1A-4C28-BF27-B66E3A61E5D7} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiiiex.dll

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

Step # 3: Deleting Files/Folders

I need you to use Windows Explorer to delete the files/folders I have marked in Red(if found):

Files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\My Documents\setup.exe
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\NPMySrWB.dll
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\backups\backup-20080707-221956-481-source.html
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\backups\backup-20080707-221956-726-source.html
C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiiiex.dll

Folders:

C:\Program Files\Morpheus
C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\My Documents\Morpheus Shared

Empty your Recycle Bin.

In your next post/reply, I need to see a fresh HiJackThis Log and let me know how deleting those files and folders went.

Re: HJT log... Boaxxe.dll trojan

Unread postby Paul5003 » July 9th, 2008, 5:31 pm

Here is the information I get when mcafee warns me about the trojan...

File: atiiex.dll

Trojan name: Boaxxe.dll

File path: C:\WINDOWS\system32

Status: Cannot be cleaned

I delete all the files except for atiiiex because explore would not search hidden files and im unsure how to serach and delete hidden files. I also did not delete the morpheus shared folder because I have to figure out how to get all my music and movie downloads to save somewhere else so when i delete the folder I will not lose all of them....

Here is a fresh HJT log for you..

For the stuff you want to save, you can try burning it to a CD/DVD or transferring it to a flash drive/USB stick. Once you have saved everything you want from that folder, then you can delete it.

There is one folder you do need to get rid in the Morpheus Shared folder and I'll have you do that as well as get rid of the atiiiex.dll file in this post.

Step # 1: Remove Hijackthis Entries

  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D8B3D88C-AE1A-4C28-BF27-B66E3A61E5D7} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiiiex.dll

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

Step # 2 Download and Run OTMoveIt2

Please download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    Code: Select all
    C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\My Documents\Morpheus Shared\Downloads\hgkf\Morpheus full version +Crack _ serial
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiiiex.dll

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light blue bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

In your next post/reply, I need to see the following:

1. OTMoveIT2 log
2. A fresh HiJackThis Log
