Hello roadking,

Remove Poker programs
From your log I can see you've installed poker programs. A lot of poker programs are infected/can infect you with malware.
I would advise you to go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall your poker programs.

PartyPoker

Here are links to some poker sites regarded as safe for your reference.
1. http://www.pokerstars.net/- This is a free to use/play site with play money.
2. http://www.pokerstars.com/ - This is a free to use/play site with play money and real money.

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)

Hello roadking2003,

Update Adobe Reader
Recently there have been vunerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly suggested that you update to the current version. Adobe Reader 8.
You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Adobe 8 is a large program and if you prefer a smaller program you can get Foxit 2.0 instead from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
----------------------------------------------
Run Kaspersky Online AV Scanner

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place like your Desktop. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Copy and paste the report into your next reply along with a fresh HJT log and a description of how your PC is behaving.

Hello roadking2003,

Using Windows Explore by right-clicking the Start button and left clicking Explore navigate to and find the following files:

C:\Documents and Settings\David D. Riffle\Local Settings\Temp\nst70.tmp\downloads\6.ex_
C:\Documents and Settings\David D. Riffle\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for limewire pro.zip
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\backups\backup-20080615-181736-588.dll

Right-Click and remove them all.

After doing these is the pc working ok?

Hello roadking2003,

We are not completely done yet.

Do you know anything or recognise the folder coloured red?
Can you go to the downloads folder green coloured, and see if anything in there?

C:\Documents and Settings\David D. Riffle\Local Settings\Temp\nst70.tmp\downloads

Let me know please.

I had you delete the 6.ex_ as it shows in my 1. example

1.
C:\Documents and Settings\David D. Riffle\Local Settings\Temp\nst70.tmp\downloads\6.ex_

2.
C:\Documents and Settings\David D. Riffle\Local Settings\Temp\nst70.tmp
What about this one nst70.tmp?
Is it removed? If you do not know what it is, just remove it please, and let me know.

We are not seeing that file in the windows explorer.....is it somewhere else on the computer? Possibly it's already been removed or wasn't there at the begining...

Hello roadking2003,

That file was in a temporary folder. If you cleaned your temporary files it may gone now.
Just to be sure i will give you a cleaner to run.
----------------------------------------------
Please download ATF cleaner
Make sure that all browser windows are closed.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All and UNCHECK Cookies.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
----------------------------------------------
I can't see any firewall in your HijackThis log, so i assume you use windows firewall.

FIREWALL
Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. If you use the Windows Firewall you might think that's sufficient but it only controls one way of the traffic (inbound). Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. It's preferable to install one of the suggested firewalls.
Vista users, must check compatibility with Vista before installation.

FREE FIREWALLS
Tutorial about Firewalls can be found here
----------------------------------------------
Set correct settings for files that should be hidden in Windows XP
  • Click Start > My Computer > Tools menu (at top of page) > Folder Options > View tab.
  • Under "Hidden files and folders" if necessary select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • If unchecked please checkHide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • If necessary check "Display content of system folders"
  • If necessary Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK
----------------------------------------------
You can keep Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware update it, and use it often to clean your pc.
----------------------------------------------
Congratulations you are clean! :)
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

Turn off System Restore
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Reboot.
Turn ON System Restore
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5.2
Download it from here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here

Install SpyWare Blaster 4.0
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from here

Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here : http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.
http://www.update.microsoft.com
Note 1: If you are running Windows XP SP2, you should upgrade to SP3.
Note 2: Users of Norton Internet Security 2008 should uninstall the software before they install Service Pack 3.
The security suite can then be reinstalled afterwards.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Read some information here how to prevent Malware.

Happy safe surfing!
