Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

  1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  2. Click start/run and copy and Paste this in exactly using the picture below for reference:
    "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply . (c:\comboFix.txt)

I am away from my pc on business for a couple of days so can pick up the message but not act on it. I will follow your instructions when I return. Can we keep this open for the time being?

Thanks

I have looked carefully at the instructions from the link but cannot find how to install the recovery console from microsoft. 310994 does not appear to be any use. I don't have an XD disk with my Dell machine and I don't have a floppy drive. My system is XP Home 2002 SP2. I have not therefore run combofix. I have run a new HJT log having deleted the items as you specified.
Thanks
Jackie

Unread postby Bob4 » June 11th, 2008, 8:08 pm

Let's go this route:

1. Download Combo fix from one of these locations.
* IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe

2. Click start/run and copy and Paste this in exactly using the picture below for reference:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

Image

3. Combo will begin to run DO NOTHING while this is happeneing.
  • It will kill a few processes and disconnect you from the internet.
  • If by chance it stops prematurly you can re-establish your internet connection by restarting your computer.
  • This needs to be done so the program can work most efficiently for you.
Do not attempt to use the internet or anything else while it's doing its job for you.

If when it's completed you can not get on the internet just reboot the computer

Post the log from comboFix for me located in
c:\comboFix.txt

I see you have Frostwire installed also. A majority of infected computers have some sort of file sharing program and is where amany get infected.
It's not the program so much as it is the garbage that gets downloaded with them. Please do not use this program untll I have you all clean.
I would give some thought to not using such
a program as it leaves you wide open for infections such as this one and much worse

We now suggest that you install the Windows Recovery Console.

Go to Microsoft's website => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994

Select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System

Image

Download the file & save it as it's originally named, next to ComboFix.exe.

Image

Now close all open windows and programs, including all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.
  • Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.
  • At the next prompt, click no to run the full ComboFix scan.

    RUN HJT

    HJT
Run hijackthis and choose scan only and place a check by the following lines if present.
Close all other windows and browsers except HJT before clicking on Fix Checked

    Close that.

    Submit a file to Jotti
    Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste this filepath in there.
If theres is more than one file to scan, insert them 1 at a time.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ogezfokdmporjccud.dll

    Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:

Re: I have been hit by cpmsky. Cann you help me fix it?

Unread postby jackie » June 15th, 2008, 4:51 pm

I believe I have installed recovery console using combofix. It produced this log.

WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe
[boot loader]
timeout=2
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons

I have then got as far as removing the two lines with HJT ok.
Then i submitted the file to Jotti and got the following message
"The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"
I do still have AVG Free running (I can't see how to stop it without uninstalling it - must I do that?). I guess I have a windows firewall (?) but don't know whether that would be stopping me proceding or how to shut it if that is what I need to do.
I don't have any other programs that I have set running.
What should I do next?

Thanks

I don't use AVG but
I will ask around with my colleagues . Usually if you right click on the icon on the task bar you will have an option to disable real time protection, give that a try for me.

Edit: also can be called disable resident shield

Try this.

Launch AVG interface
Click "Components"->"Resident Shield"
Uncheck "Resident Shield active"
Click "Save Changes"

Thanks - AVG Free V8 has disable resident shield option in Tools/Advanced
I have disabled AVG and Spyware Doctor but am still getting same message from Jotti:
"The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"
What should I try next?

Kaspersy scan runs for a minute or so and then hangs. I get a message saying that it may not run successfully unless I disable other anti-virus programs so I think maybe I still have AVG Free V8 blocking these runs even though I have disbaled the resident shield. AVG still shows anti-virus and anti-spyware as active so i guess they are and i can't find any way to temporarily deactive them. I am very reluctant to uninstall my intivirus and go online. What do you think?
Thanks
