Adspyware Popups,INDEX.BR,FSfolder access denied,HD spinning

Hi~

While using live.com search for [real] spiders in Arizona, looking for pics of spiders,one site date to download to see the pics-clicked ok but noticed browser switched to 'adult' site but didnt open it, tried to close out but wouldnt allow, so I shut off and restarted my computer.

Popups began immedidately[even with a pop up blocker] saying I was infected with a trojan and could click on to buy remedy- so I clicked NO and went into my computer search to seek any newly created files that could cause the popups.

I found FS folder with INDEX.BTR MAP AND A FEW OTHERS. They were dated and timed when my computer had jumped to that other website away from the arizona spiders. I minimized them so as not to lose them.
I ran a total virus scan with AVG -
I downloaded and ran AVG spyware removal.
Neither removed the FS or INDEX folder and files.
I opened properties on the INDEX.BTR , UNCLICKED read only and unclicked ready for archiving AFTER I tried to delete them with access denied and renamed to delete but again access was denied.
I tried to read them with notepad to see if any reference to the pop up ads and their frequency would be revealed.
Now the popups seem to have stopped or at least havent popped up for over an hour.The hard drive still however goes into maniacal loud spinning.

I have an Hp a705w with 512 MB RAM, Netopia wireless, MagicJack phone [but unplugged since this began] Ihave turned off my printers and scanner. l ready loaded Windows XP SP3 and the Malicious Software Removal tool & ran them- no results.

Would I be better off just doing a Destructive Factory F10 Restore and reloading my programs again?
