I gotta admit, I'm new to this i.e., HijackThis ... and I need help. I'd appreciate if someone could help me work out what the below logfile shows and what's wrong with it and ofcourse, how to fit it ?

I should probably mention that I was being K-lined by a few servers on dalnet stating "compromised host" and then after a couple of days, now I've been K-lined from all servers with the same message.
Also, machine performance is extremely sluggish especially when I start internet explorer & open new browers windows.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what do you meant by "k-lined" ?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Runonce] C:\WINDOWS\system32\runouce.exe

Looks like a file infector may be present.

http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses ... chirb.html

Let's do a scan first.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX from Kaspersky. Click Yes.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Next button.
  4. Click on Scan Settings button.
  5. Select extended under Scan using the following antivirus database:
  6. Check (tick) these boxes under Scan options:
    • Scan Archives
    • Scan Mail Bases
  7. Click OK
  8. Click on My Computer under Please select a target to scan:
  9. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Click on Save as text button and save it to your desktop.
  10. Copy and paste this log in your next reply.

Being "K-Lined" from an IRC server basically means you're banned from connecting to the netword for a specified period of time. There may be various reasons why one might be K-Lined, in my case, the msg displayed was "Infected Host".

Anyway, I ran the Kaspersky online scanner and it looks pretty bad. Here's the report.

The Kaspersky log looks all right.

Step 1

If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofi ... e-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once Recovery Console is installed, you should see a blue screen prompt like the one below:

Image

Click Yes to allow Combofix to continue scanning for malware.

When done, a log will be produced. Please post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Step 2

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.

Hi,

µTorrent is installed on your computer. While µTorrent is a clean P2P program, there's no guarantee that the files downloaded are. Please refrain from using it /them while cleaning your computer to prevent getting more infections.

A list of clean and infected P2P programs can be found at Malware Removal and Spyware Info.

The risks of using a P2P program are stated in this Sourceforge website and Information Week article.

Please also read Malware Removal's Guide on P2P Programs.

Step 1

Please open Notepad and copy and paste the following in the Code box into Notepad:

Code: Select all
http://malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=30583

File::
C:\WINDOWS\mngui.INI

Collect::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\runouce.exe

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Runonce"=-
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{e45c4ab0-57ec-11dc-9d80-101111111111}]

Warning: The above script is just for adil1234. If you are not adil1234, please do not use this script as it may damage the workings of your system.

Click on File > Save As....

In the File Name field, copy and paste in CFScript.txt. Do not change the file name.

Click Save.

Referring to the picture below, drag CFScript into Combofix.

Image

Combofix will start running. When done, a log will be produced. Please post this log in your next reply.

In addition, it will prompt you to submit some files for analyzing.

Image

Click OK.

Copy and paste the file path into the text box next to the Browse button (boxed up in red).

Image

Click on Send File.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Step 2

  1. Please download Flash_Disinfector and save it to your desktop.
  2. Double click to run it.
  3. You will be prompted to plug in your flash drive (also known as thumb drive, pen drive, USB drive). Plug it in.
  4. Flash_Disinfector will start disinfecting your flash and hard drives. This takes a few seconds. Your desktop will disappear in the meantime.
  5. When done, a message box will appear. Click OK. Your desktop should now appear. If it doesn't, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  6. Click on File > New Task (Run...). Type in explorer.exe and press Enter. Your desktop should now appear.

Repeat for all the flash drives that you have.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Combofix log (C:\Combofix.txt)
  2. A new HijackThis log

Regarding your uninstall error - http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Why_do_I_get_NSIS_Error

I see that you have Download Accelerator Plus. Try disabling it and download a new installer from uTorrent, re-install it and see if it helps.

Step 1

Download ATF Cleaner and save it to your desktop.

Double click on ATF-Cleaner.exe to run it.

  • Click on Main at the top.
  • Tick all the boxes except the Prefetch and Cookies box.
  • Click on Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox

  • Click on Firefox at the top.
  • Tick all the boxes except Firefox Cookies and Firefox Saved Passwords.
  • Click on Empty Selected button.

If you use Opera

  • Click on Opera at the top.
  • Tick all the boxes except Opera Cookies and Opera Saved Passwords.
  • Click on Empty Selected button.

Close ATF Cleaner when you are done.

Step 2

  1. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
  2. Double click on mbam-setup.exe to install it.
  3. Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):
      Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
  5. Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
  6. Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
  7. When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
  8. Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
  9. After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan report
  2. A new HijackThis log

Hi,

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Kaspersky Antivirus scan report
  2. A new HijackThis log

Hi,

Update Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Your JRE is out of date. The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs. Locate J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  2. Repeat for this old version of JRE: J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  3. Click here to visit Java's website.
  4. Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6. Click on Download.
  5. Select Windows from the drop-down list for Platform.
  6. Select Multi-language from the drop-down list for Language.
  7. Check (tick) I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement box and click on Continue.
  8. Click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe link to download it and save this to a convenient location.
  9. Run this installation to update your Java.

Install a firewall

A firewall scans incoming and outgoing traffic for malicious activities. If it's bad, it will be blocked from communicating.

There is no sign of a firewall installed on your system. There are several reasons for it.

  1. You are using Windows Firewall.
  2. You are using a hardware firewall.
  3. You don't have a firewall at all.

Please get ONE firewall and install it. Restart the computer for changes to take effect.

Online Armor
Webroot Desktop Firewall --- You need to register before you can download it.
Comodo Personal Firewall
Sunbelt Kerio

Please post back a new HijackThis log after installing the firewall and after you have updated Java.

okay, now I'm worried! I'm posting this reply from my cell phone because something's wrong with my computer.

I downloaded, installed a firewall. I also updated JRE environment after removing the old one. Then I updated avast! Rebooted & now all the applications are not starting. When I try to start them directly from START menu then I get message. "cannot find specified filename/path. You may not have the permissions to run this file".

So now I can't connet to the internet or anything, nor can I shut down my computer as i get a msg "you do not have the permissions to shut down this computer".

Plz, I need help, what should I do now?

how can I restore settings ?

I installed commodo. It prompted me for alot of requests and I allowed everything that I thought was important & then the machine had to be restarted since it got stuck.
