You will need to make a copy of these instructions because you have to disconnect from the internet to complete the fix. Either print them out or 'Copy and Paste' them into Notepad.

Preparation

1) You will need to know how to boot into Safe Mode.
Instructions can be found here.

2) Download VundoFix.exe from here and save it to your Desktop.
Double click VundoFix.exe to extract the files.
In the 'VundoFix Setup' window, click on Install and then Close - This will create a folder called VundoFix on your Desktop.

3) Download CleanUp! from here and install it.
Configure it as follows:
Click on Options... on the right hand side.
Drag the arrow to 'Custom CleanUp!"
Check the boxes to the left of the following, only, and then click on OK:
    Empty Recycle Bins
    Delete Cookies
    Delete Prefetch files
    CleanUp! All Users
Close the program - you will need it later.

4) Log off from the internet and disconnect your modem cable.

Removal

1) Boot into Safe Mode.

2) Open the VundoFix folder and double click on KillVundo.bat

3) You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums at which to seek help.
It should look like this:
VundoFix V2.1 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
Press enter to continue....

*** This warning is intended to disuade people from using it without supervision. ***

Press <ENTER>

4) Next you will see:
Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

Please type the following file path, making sure to enter it exactly as below:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutq.dll

Press <ENTER>, then the F6 key, then press <ENTER> again to continue with the fix.

5) Next you will see:
Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

Please type the following file path, making sure to enter it exactly as below:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\qtutv.*

Press <ENTER>, then the F6 key, then press <ENTER> again to continue with the fix.

6) The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutq.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {702EA91C-1ACF-4772-8078-18F2B2EE1031} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtutq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutq.dll

Then click on Fix checked

7) After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and press any key to force a reboot of your computer.

*** Pressing any key will cause a 'Blue Screen of Death' - this is normal, don't worry! ***

8) When your PC has rebooted, run CleanUp!
If you are asked 'Do you wish to logoff now?', click on No.

9) Reconnect your modem cable and run the following online scan and allow it to fix anything that it finds: Panda ActiveScan.

Copy and paste the result of the above scan into your next reply along with the vundofix.txt file from the VundoFix folder, a fresh HJT log AND a description of how your PC is running.

Thank you Noviciate for your help, it was no use to me or my computer, as soon as I took my computer to the safemode, it pretty much crashed...my computer is stuck in between safemode and a black screen, we can't even get Windows XP, or System restore to work on it now, Dell worked on this over the telephone with me for 2 hours yesterday, but nothing worked..it seems my drivers and other parts have been corrupted by that Winfix bug., I understand dell tech to tell me I will have to take the harddrive clear back to factory restore.
I now have to pay Dell to fix my computer, as I have 4 years warrenty on the parts inside of this computer, but not if the problem is caused by software????...
Thank you again for trying to help me with this..:)

We're sorry to hear the malware did so much damage to your computer's system. It's unfortunate that these things sometimes happen; often it's because the malware is so poorly written that it wreaks havoc with important system files and settings.

Best of luck to you.
