The CA Yahoo Anti Spy 2.1.1 program on my Yahoo home page has found the Trojan Bancos IYG on C:\windows\system 32\acer.exe. I have ran Trend Micro, A Squared Anti Malware,, Virustotal, PrevX.com, Spybot, Superantispyware, Spyware Doctor, Spyware Terminator etc. None of them detect the Trojan. Is Yahoo CA Anti Spy wrong???. I got in touch with Yahoo, in a nutshell they said it is likely only removable with a full scan which CA Yahoo Antispy currently does not support. I am running an Acer Laptop with Vista Premium 2 gb memory 160 gb harddrive. This is driving me crazy. Any help appreciated.

Hi jimp39

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi

Have you previously uninstalled Norton?

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:

o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:

+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)

    o Scan Options:

    + Scan Archives
    + Scan Mail Bases

  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Please do not use your computer while the scan is running. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Click the Save Report As... button (see red arrow below)
    Image
  • In the Save as... prompt, select Desktop
  • In the File name box, name the file KasScan-ddmmyy (or similar)
  • In the Save as type prompt, select Text file (see below)
    Image
  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Savethe file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Note: This scanner will work with Internet Explorer Only! Keep ALL other programs closed during the scan

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

Norton was pre-installed when I bought the laptop. Yes I uninstalled it.
I have done as you said but cannot paste the report to this. It says to protect your computer it has been saved to Temporary Internet Files. I cannot find it.
I am a Senior Citizen and not really computer ''savvy''. Please bear with me.

Hi

Then we do this.

Follow first these
instructions.

After that:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Please post contents of that file in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

That looks good.

Do you want further researching regarding C:\windows\system32\acer.exe?

Hi, I have done a scan using CA Yahoo anti spyware and no threat was found. Some small cookies only. So it looks as though Trojan Bancos IYG is gone. Many thanks for your assistance. Will the Acer file be alright now?

Hi

Likely it is ok but we can doublecheck:

Please click this link-->Jotti

Copy/paste the first file on the list into the white Upload a file box and click Submit/Send (depends on which one you are using Jotti or VirusTotal).

C:\windows\system32\acer.exe

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

ATTENTION: VirusTotal is a free service offered by Hispasec Sistemas. There are no guarantees about the availability and continuity of this service. Although the detection rate afforded by the use of multiple antivirus engines is far superior to that offered by just one product, these results DO NOT guarantee the harmlessness of a file. Currently, there is not any solution that offers a 100% effectiveness rate for detecting viruses and malware
