Hello. Kids must have been at the computer again. I've done as much as I can to clean it. Don't know where they get this stuff but I would appreciate any of your specialist help. Thanks Bradley.

Hi, Bradley. Welcome to Malware Removal. I'm very sorry for the delay in getting to you.

There isn't much showing in your HijackThis log. Will you tell me please what seems to be the problem and what you've done in the way of cleaning so I can determine where we need to go from here?

Hello

I have a home network and the pc could see other computers but not access the internet through either IE or Firefox. I have McAfee Security but with the problems also ran Ad Aware, AVG and Spybot, each of which found problems and I researched how to remove them. The only thing I was not sure that was removed was Aze Search Toolbar.

The internet worked after doing this and the pc is workable but still slow so I assumed it was some Malware that was still active?

If it looks clean then I may as well keep using the system as is until another problem occurs and let you solve other issues for people.

I thought McAfee was supposed to protect systems fully? Do you recommend another live background product I need to run as well that is not a resource hog and may give me more protection?

Thanks

Bradley

Bradley, there are a couple of things for us to fix with HijackThis, but it doesn't show us everything so I'd like to have you run an online scan to see if anything else shows up that may have been missed. Once we've determined that your malware is gone, we will see what we can do to speed up your system and how to help protect you against any more infections.

Spybot's TeaTimer didn't appear to be running when you posted your original HijackThis log, but it can prevent our fix from working so let's make sure it's disabled while we're cleaning. It will need to be re-enabled once we're finished.

  1. If you have version 1.5, right click the Spybot Icon in the system tray near the clock (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol).
  2. Click once on Resident Protection, then right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  3. Go to Start > All Programs > Spybot - Search & Destroy > Spybot Search & Destroy.
  4. Click on Mode > Advanced Mode. When it prompts you, click Yes.
  5. On the left hand side, click on Tools.
  6. Check this box if it is not yet ticked: Resident.
  7. You will notice that Resident is now added under Tools. Click on Resident.
  8. Uncheck this box: Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active.
  9. Exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
  10. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

  1. If you have version 1.4, go to Start > All Programs > Spybot - Search & Destroy > Spybot Search & Destroy.
  2. Click on Mode > Advanced Mode. When it prompts you, click Yes.
  3. On the left hand side, click on Tools.
  4. Check this box if it is not yet ticked: Resident.
  5. You will notice that Resident is now added under Tools. Click on Resident.
  6. Uncheck this box: Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) active.
  7. Exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
  8. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Run HijackThis and check the box next to each of the following items if they're still present:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1a0f9bd5-2ee5-4653-abd0-62849cffb2d4} - (no file)

Close all open browsers and windows and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: Uncheck Cookies if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).

If you use Firefox browser

  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX from Kaspersky. Click Yes.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Next button.
  • Click on Scan Settings button.
  • Select extended under Scan using the following antivirus database:
  • Check these boxes under Scan options:
    • Scan Archives
    • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Click on My Computer under Please select a target to scan:
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Click on Save as text button and save it to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.

Also, when you scanned with AVG Anti-Spyware, did you happen to save the results? If so, please post the contents of that log too if you still have it.

In your next reply, I'd like to see a new HijackThis log, the results from the Kaspersky scan, and the log from the AVG Anti-Spyware scan.
