My computer is having some major problems with malware. It started with Malwarrior and I believe that one is gone but it now has other malware and spyware files that are causing popups. Also since Malwarrior caused a problem when Windows first starts if I try to click the toolbar or the start menu, when I run the mouse pointer over eitherit just shows the hourglass and I can not click on either. But once I have double clicked something on the desktop this issue ends and I can click the start menu. Could the virus have caused this? Thank you in advance for the help it is much appreciated. Below i the Hijack this log I just received when I ran it. I am running Windows XP home edition.

Hi

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log in your next reply

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

If you have problems with Combofix usage, see here

Hi,
I downloaded Combofix as instructed. However when I closed all windows and doubleclicked the icon it posts the authorization warning and I click the option ok to allow. It thenshows a little combofix loading icon and then brings up a larger blue screen. But the larger blue screen only quickly flashes and then dissappears. I tried deleting and redownloading and running several times along with restarting the computer several times. I was unable to get this Combofix to run. I tried following the help link that you provided but I was unable to do anything with that either. Is there anything else I can try to get this malware off of here it seems to get worse each time I restart.
Thanks

Hi,
I tried to run this in safemode and received the same results it appears to be loading and the blue screen opens up really quick and then dissappears. I tried restarting and using both the administrator account and regular user account in both regualar and safe mode to run this but received the same results each time.

Anything else I could try?
Thanks

Hi

Delete your copy of combofix and download a fresh copy from those links.
Then try again, please :)

I deleted Combofix.exe along with the associated folder in the C: drive and re attempted the download. I saved the file to the desktop closed all applications and retried to run the program. It still is performing the same way as before. I deleted this copy and downloaded from the second link and received the same results. I tried both copies of the download in both safe mode and normal startup mode with the same failing results.
Thanks

Hi

Are both Norton and McAfee up-to-date?

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post.

Hi,
I have updated both Norton and McAfee and both find viruses when I run scans and then quarantine or delete them. However after a short amount of time the problems begin to arise again. It appears as if they are not getting everything.
Thanks

Hi

Then you will have to choose which one you use; Norton or McAfee.

You should use only one antivirus.

If Norton has a firewall, I recommend that you uninstall McAfee.

After that, please re-run dss and post its main.txt, please :)

Due to Lack of Response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
