RBOT Worm?

Unread postby biffothebare » September 14th, 2005, 6:49 pm

Could someone please have a look at my HiJackThis log file please. I am running Windows XP Home Edition and AMD Athlon 3400+. My anti-virus program (AVG), Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot, SpywareBlaster and Microsoft's anti-spyware are updated and run on a daily basis but nothing was found. The only time that a possible infection by the RBOT Worm is mentioned is when i open and run Windows Startup Inspector. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Biffothebare,

First halt this Process (if found), by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, this will bring up Windows Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab, scroll down to find the process, then click on the End Process button. Repeat till all processes are halted.

palstart.exe

Perform a scan using HJT, and check the following items (if found).

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop

O4 - Global Startup: palstart.exe

Close all windows except for the HJT window, and click the Fix Checked button.

Exit out of HijackThis.

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
1. Click Start.
2. Click My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Click Yes to confirm.
7. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Click OK.
Search for Hidden Files
By default, the Search companion does not search for hidden files. Because of this, you may be unable to find files, even though they exist on the drive.

To search for hidden or system files in Windows XP:

Click Start, click Search, click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options.
1. Click to select the Search hidden files and folders check boxes.

Now delete this file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\palstart.exe

Clear out your temp files as well.
