HELP!

Hi! I'm pretty much sure that my computer is already infected. According to avast, I am infected with 1.reg, a malware. Deleting/moving to virus chest doesn't seem to work. In any case, I've tried to read up on the said malware, to no avail.. so.. HELP!!

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. We can attempt to clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm totally bummed that I have to reformat, as per your suggestion. While I was already contemplating doing that, I still have some hang ups about reformating at once, due to schedule concerns. (It always took me one entire day to reformat, having to reinstall everything from scratch )

In any case, while I'm already resigned to do the reformat, I just have a couple of questions.

1. Can you determine which file is the one that's infected? I want to verify if other computers that I use to transfer files to are likewise infected.

2. Also, since most of my work are documents in the computer, can I just copy and paste all the documents and other files as back up?

1. Well at least this:

Other files (if exist) don't show up in HjT log.
